Although it has yet to be released in North America, ANB is quite the stir. And I'm sure we're all discovering things we absolutely love about the game... and things we don't so much love. Discuss!

Personally I'm just afraid this will be as tedious as everything else that came after DS Cute. For example, having to work for something just to unlock a certain bachelor, etc. I had this painful experience in ToTT...I know for a fact that I had to get other villagers' FP up high just to marry Cam. Seriously? I don't give two butts about Ash or Howard or Laney and even if I liked them, I couldn't have been assed to raise their FP. I just want to live in my own little world of farming and wooing the man of my dreams. =/ Everything else is tedious.

That is my biggest fear about this game. We'll see. I used to hate everything about HMDS until I came around and soon the things I had once hated about it became the things that I loved about it. Perhaps for this game too.

Well let's see. I think I'll like the game play itself.

I just wish that the mine was available at the beginning of the game.

And I'm no architect so I wish that SOME of the buildings were already there and you can't move them that way at least I would have a better idea where I want to put everything else :?

I don't mind making friends with the other characters so I can unlock thing because then it gives me something to do. Normally in the old games I would just go after the person of my (game) dreams and marry them then get bored of the game and not touch it again for years.

So I'm glad that it at least has me do something more than just flirt with the boys and then have nothing else.

I also want to know more about the cropping system. Like does one bag of seeds only plant one square like in some of the old games (because I find that very stupid) or do they plant in a strait line. or like the good ol days where it was a 3x3 square?

To say the least I think that this will be one interesting game. :bunny:

Mostly, this is my most anticipated HM game ever. I have never been so hyped up for a Harvest Moon game, and I usually get pretty excited over them. Maybe its because its been a few years since I last played one? I dunno... =/

However, I'm worried about the building requirements. Like, build X number of objects to move the story along and have new characters move in. I know this isn't new to Harvest Moon in any way at all, but I've never enjoyed it in past games. It feels like chores. Yeah, I guess it's something for me to do, but I kinda wish it wasn't such a main focus of so many of the games...
I'm also worried about the beginning. According to some people who've already played ANB, the beginning is very slow. I despise slow beginnings! DX Don't you think that since this is Harvest Moon's "New Beginning" that the beginning should be a little bit more upbeat? I had problems with this in IoH. I found the beginning to be so boring in that game...

But, once the game gets moving and I've completed most of the tasks, I'm sure it will be really fun! It's just getting past the beginning that will be the hard part. =( I guess.

We don't know everything about ANB, but really, it promises to be the best HM game in a long while... technically 2, 3, 4, or 5 years, depending on how you feel about past games.

There are three things I don't like about this game. One, which I'm experiencing right now, is the need for certain materials to build an item required for a quest, but that items only available in certain seasons (which means I have to wait even longer for new bachelors to move in). Two, I wish your child looked different depending on who you married (It just doesn't make sense! If your character is black and you marry Amir, why would your child be white?) Third, I wish there were rival marriages, or at least rival love scenes like in AWL (like Gustafa and Nami's scenes) so that you could see others beside just you are falling in love.

But aside from that, I'm really happy. It is my favorite HM game so far. It's extremely easy to make money too (unlike in AnWL), thanks to the wifi system which allows you to milk and sheer livestock whenever. I always feel like I'm progressing in the game, rather than at a stand-still waiting for something new to happen in my daily routine like other HM games I've played. I also like the choice of bachelors (I feel like most HM games focus on developing great bachelorettes and leave bachelors as an after thought, though I haven't played any of the new games after HM:DS).

i adore the customization, the new crops and new animals!

i adore the new contest rankings.

I do dislike the spindly legged horse and that we have to wait so long to unlock the mines, and the inability to mix and match cloths

Things I love: The festivals, the freedom to design the whole town. The characters are interesting and the cut scenes of the characters are really funny. All the heart events have been good to do. The amount of stuff to do once you get everything unlocked. The gameplay is good, it's really smooth and feels like the older HM games. I like the catching bugs and fishing in this one. The crops have loads of variety and I can horde heaps and I need them for all my recipes and building so you never know what you need. Even wild grass hording is useful!
You can save anywhere and usually at any time, except for during festivals.

Things I hate: The unskippable cutscenes of the opening/closing shops. The cows and sheep are hard to push out the barn so you need to wait till Rod comes, you buy a pet that will take out the animals for you then you can get heaps of livestock. Before that I would recommend sticking with the single sheep and cow, it will be tedious if you have more than two large animals. The trees at the start of the game are impossible! They just keep popping up every 3 days and you won't have an axe till Irona comes at the end of spring. You can't put down items till Rebecca comes so you can't block the trees till then. Sometimes you're stuck with no place to put the house you have built and you have to wait.
There's only two save slots. :(
So yeah it's the first year that's the real chore. The first month can be hard going but you'll make heaps of money from catching insects and selling them. You only need to ship crops unless it's a town wish list item, like honey. Yeah the wish list can take a while and some items are hard to find.

My top three irritating items.
Platinum for the best axe, can only be found in the mine and is rare. You need 5! Which took me a whole year but I think there's a small cheat were you can save and reload if you don't get an item you want when mining so maybe it's okay.

Pearls for the Gorgeous fountain: They can only be found in Southern beach holiday and they're a random item from the lobster net. Sometimes they're lying around the island but it's rare. You need 10!

Honey for shipping: One town request is to ship 30 honey. I found myself cursing during raining days and before I knew it the bees had died because it was winter and I was only 2 honey away from my goal, that was frustrating.

There are other small things I might add that I love and hate about this game but overall I think it's good. I'm enjoying it more than Happiness Island, which was the last HM game I played.

Now all I need is a certain item for the Witch's house! That might take over my list into four irritating items.

I loved that we can customize our characters and our farm, the bachelors and bachelorettes and the villagers.
I just didn't like that is only for Nintendo 3DS, I wish it was for the normal DS too, because I'll have to wait untill (or if) I get a 3DS.

I can't say too much because there isn't any released information about the other aspects of the game.
I think this will be an interesting game, and I'll definetly buy if I get a 3DS.

The thing thant annoyed me the most was the lack of rival couples. I don't know much about the gameplay, but overall the game looks great! I'll most likely buy it.

Haven't played the game yet, buuuuut...

-Lack of rivals: I miss rivals, rival marriages, and rival kids. I may not always like the pair, but I at least want the illusion that they'll be happy! I don't like having a harem.

-Switching skin color (and eye color, I think?) mid-game; It's an interesting feature, and I can understand why some people may want to change mid game....but it's just odd to think about it. It screwed up the kid NPCs pretty bad.

I'm over-all pretty adaptable and haven't found anything I've really disliked in previous Harvest Moon games, I've always taken well to any changes. The only thing that really bothers me about this Harvest Moon and a couple of the past ones is that there really isn't much in the way of a 'farmer's daughter/son', which were always the types I've married in past Harvest Moon games and have always been quite attached to them. >_<

I really like to walk in to my house and see my spouse actually look like they fit in to be in a farm house instead of sitting there in a blazing white suit (Gill from AP), maid outfit (Felicity in this one), doctor's coat (Jin from AP) or what-have-you and sticking out like a sore thumb. For this reason, spouses like Celia from AWL and Renee from AP have been my beloved wives in the past and my favorites in the series. Though this isn't a big deal, it is something that makes me slightly sad with this Harvest Moon. I suppose I'll find someone I want to marry, probably one of the bachelors who likes animals.

Everything else that seems to be annoying in the game play to some people are just added challenges that I enjoy tackling, including the slow beginning.

I'm loving this game so far. The last Harvest Moon game I pre-ordered was IoH and I pre-ordered a copy of ANB, that's how excited I am for the game. I wish there were rival couples, but then I would feel bad if I broke up my favorite couple like I did in SI (And DSC if Gray and Mary could get married). I married Vaughn, but my favorite couple was Sabrina and Vaughn. Sabrina's also my favorite bachelorette so I wouldn't really see that couple.

Hmm. I'm starting to dislike this game somewhat. It seems like everything I hated about IoH and beyond is somehow in ANB.

Well, I'll play for myself and see. The last Harvest Moon game I ever cared about was DS Cute, and I want that to change. I want to start liking a ~fresh~ ~new~ game for once.

So very much to complain about. Poorly balanced building requirments that end up with somehting that is highly seasonal being required to move the story along which requires waiting a considerable length of time before you can get more people. This exacerbates the very slow start. To make the slow start feel more painful, upgrading tools beyond the second level requires access to the mine. The mine itself requires some town 'level-ups' to unlock.

Money is no issue. This means there really isn't a reason to do any work. There is nothing to spend your money on that even comes close to how much you can earn with even a basic farm. I've just recently sold most of my livestock and killed all my crops because it is a pain to tend them.

The unskippable cutscenes for things like neils cart and the pets doig some herding, etc. are a poor design choice that becomes more and more frustrating as time goes on.

The NEED to forage every day for very minor gain (and random) just so that you can build things. I mean, I have 6.5 million currency units sitting in my back pocket, please sell me a single small stone so I can finish this construction today rather than waiting at least one and possibly more days for one to randomly spawn.

I can go on. And maybe some day when I remember in more detail.
But for the GOOD:

The customisation is very well implemented and the annoyingly short jingle when placing and building stuff is incredible fun.
The ability to have a nice sprawling farm as opposed to the tight, fixed little areas from grand Bazaar and other previous ones. Also, the time runs pretty nicely so that you have enough time in the day to do everything but don't feel rushed and forced to pause if you want to stop and think about something (like crop placement, etc.)

Big surrounding area. With 3 wilderness areas i find there is plenty of space to run around and enjoy.

Despite the slightly lacklustre choice of brides/grooms they are still fairly interesting and have some depth. More than some previous harvest moon games but perhaps not the best of the bunch. Dating is also a nice touch; for some people they may like to stay as a boyfriend/girlfriend type relationship in their game without having to resort to marriage. Pity about the lack of rivals though.

Again, there is more that is good and better than the average harvest moon game. but I've already written a chapter on this so far. It is by no means perfect but it is a damn sight better than some of the « Puppy Doodoo » out there.
