Making kids that look exactly like you no matter what with the customize system? Beyond too much data to jam into a DS game. They're already pushIng it to the limit.
That's flat-out wrong though. The extra data required to change your kid's skin tone and hair color would be incredibly insignificant in the grand scheme of things. The 3DS can certainly handle it.

I'd say the more likely reason is that the artist didn't want to color the same two portraits of the kids a ton of different ways. And that has nothing to do with data.

Ronin19 wrote:Well, we can forget about HM games coming on consoles, Marvelous has stated that they're going to focus on HM games for handhelds (3DS and Vita). Go play ToT and AP if you want to play a Wii HM game.
Firstly, just because Marvelous is putting more focus into handheld games doesn't mean we'll never see a console HM again. It just hopefully means that we'll get more handhelds games and that they'll be of higher quality (which ANB seems to prove, thankfully). Secondly, I have played many hours of AP and it was fantastic. I can see why people would be more prone to the console games, because in my opinion some of the best HM games have been on consoles.
Who cares if your kid doesn't look like either one of you.
I do.
Remember HMDS? Jack and Keira could have Muffy's kid. Brown + Black = Blonde?
Yes. It was stupid then and it's still stupid now. What's your point?
If this is deal breaker for you, then skip ANB. Frankly, you'd be missing out on a great HM game. There hasn't been a good HM game on a handheld in a LONG LONG LONG time.
I don't think a single person here has mentioned skipping ANB because of the kids. You're overreacting...as many posters on this forum seem to do.
Now could we stop complaining about the little things of this game and just enjoy it? ANB seems like its going to be the best HM game in years.
No. I will complain as much and as often as I want to. I do agree that it looks like a great game, but that won't stop me from criticizing its flaws. You didn't make the game, there's no reason for you to be so defensive about it.

Yea but the excuse on that one is that she was a special character who didn't have her own styled kids -_-
So putting that in an argument made it a useless statement, they were just random generated kids, could easily reload the game for another styled kid

I think it's useless to fight over this. Some people think it's a problem, but complaining won't fix it. =/
Nor will fighting.
We can speculate over why marvelous didn't just swap the colors for the children, but again, that won't fix it.

Let's just hope the next game has better kids.

Now, for a new topic of discussion, and a question I want answered...
How are the kids' personalities in this game? Do they actually have personality, or are they just generic happy-I-Love-You kids?

I don't know if they have personality, but I know they can cook/have dinner with you and your spouse, so they aren't just a block of pixels in your way

True. Then I'll just throw out Rock and his parents Tim and Ruby and leave it like that (and ignore that fishy that's pretty ticked at me)

The kids at least grow up and I think they have developing personalities. They're at least a big improvement of the handheld kids since...well, forever. I still can't wait for this game.

I don't think that was ever confirmed. Unless Marvelous/Natsume confirms it, Tim and Ruby are Rock's biological parents

I gotta go with Roni on this. There's an event somewhere in which Tim accidentally says that he "loves Rock as if he was his own son", then they hastily try to change the subject. If that's not a clue that Rock's adopted, I don't know what is.

Now I have to trigger that. I want to either see it with my own eyes or a YouTube video of it. I looked through the guide here on AWL and practically triggered all the random events. If this was true, wouldn't it be in HMDS as well? Maybe Tim is just a step dad?

I looked through some various FAQs, and apparently when you marry Rock, when you tell Tim that the two of you are getting hitched he says the line "loved Rock like he was his own son." Also, apparently there is a portrait in the inn of another boy who doesn't look anything like Rock. It's possible that could've been Rock, but he dyed his hair, but considering his kid obtain's his blonde hair genes, probably not.

At the very least, there is no way that Rock is biologically related to Tim or Ruby. You could argue Ruby may be his biological mother, but he had a blonde (unknown) father, but chances are that she isn't his mother biologically in anyway, and that Rock was adopted after something happened to their original son.

I don't really mind that the kids don't look that much like you or your spouse (depending on how you decide to customize your character), and it real life it is possible for two dark-skinned parents to have a light-skinned child. I had a Spanish professor from Nicaragua who was a blue-eyed blonde, even though every other member of her family was dark-skinned. Genetics are weird.

To be honest, I've never been overly crazy about how the kids look in any HM game. I don't really care about the hair and eye color not matching either parent because, again, genetics are weird. Their designs just tend to be kinda... boring.

I honestly dont really mind, I never realy like the desgin of the children but since ANB has so many new features I dont really mind about the child even thought I would love it if the child looked like the spouse
