I sometimes forget when I last saved and there are a few times when I've messed up and I think "Oh I'll just reload" and I go back to 2 days before. I'm like that if I've missed a birthday and I have moved onto the next day so I have to reload and do my day over again just so I can give that character a birthday present.

So yeah, I recommend getting into a habit of saving often.

I don't like the save system, personally. Having to manually go into the menu and save instead of it being the default option when sleeping means that there are times when I go a whole season without saving. Its made worse by the fact that I can shut my DS and then open it and continue where I left off without having to save. I've then gone and quit the game without thinking and lost many hours of work.

It isn't so useful for me in the end even when i do remember to save because I play irregularly so I'll only save when i am standing in front of my bed at night. There is almost literally nothing different about my save style except that it is now weekly (or whenever i remember) instead of daily.

The saving thing is really a matter of habit since I always power off my 3DS whenever I'm done playing for the day, unless I'm going someplace where I think I'll get a lot of streetpasses (which has only happened twice really. I rarely go into crowded areas, keeping it in sleep mode for only 1-2 passes seems like a waste of battery... I'd rather wait until I think I can get a hundred in a day)

So yeah the mileage may vary depending on play style. Often times I only play for a few game-hours while waiting for someone at an appointment etc. so being able to save anywhere anytime is very convenient for me. Games like ToTT/GrB I had to decide whether to scrap the time I had already put into the day, or close the DS and hope that I wouldn't forget leaving it on. Usually that just ended up with me deciding not to play the game at all.

That sounds really vague... What I mean is that you don't have to start a whole new file in order to use the other slot, like some previous games.
That's kind of scary. I like the freedom, but I'm always afraid I will overwrite the game, so I tend to only make one save instead of taking advantage of both files.

Omg, That happened to me in DS Cute! After I had gotten so far, there I went and accidentally saved over my best file. :( So in the end I only made one file in DS cute.
