You will have to buy a 3DS if you want to play any new HM games.

There's not going to be any more for the DS and so you'll probably have to buy a 3DS but if you really dont want to I'm sure there will be a HM for the WiiU so you could wait for that?

I hope not! a HM game on the WiiU I mean, It's SOOO expensive! and games for the WiiU, when i looked it up on gamestop are like $100 at the highest and $60 at the lowest, but there might have been a $40 or $50 game...
WiiU games screen on Gamestop.com
Edit: there is no price currently for the WiiU, so never mind about it being expensive YET, but based on the prices of the games right now, It will likely be around 150 to 200 dollars! And the Wii is $140 new so that seems likely!

bah there was only ever one harvest moon game for the Wii, not including the rune factory ones. and the Wii U games should still be playable on the normal Wii, so it'll be fine!

There are 2 Wii Harvest Moon Games.
Tree of Tranquility and Animal Parade (except I think AP is TOT's upgrade...)

The DS and Wii are virtually done. (The Wii will be when the Wii U comes out). There will be some games, but after a while, production will stop for all DS and Wii games and Nintendo will then only focus on 3DS and Wii U games. Its how the industry works. (Or its how it should work, Sony needs to stop making PSP games and focus on their Vita, its not doing so well)
Besides, both systems have backwards compatibility with DS and Wii games (Except the Wii U won't be able to play Gamecube games)

Most likely handhelds are where all the harvest moon games will be on...like the DS and psp looks like marvelous api only care to make harvest moon on handhelds so 3DS and maybe ps vita is the way to go.(don't get me wrong they properly make one or two for the wii u.maybe if it does really well there might be even more for the wii u, who knows? o3o)

As everyone else has already said, the DS and the Wii are soon to be forgotten. If you're going to want any new games, not just HM ones, you're going to have to give in and buy a 3DS. They're pretty cheap used and if you wait long enough, the price will continue to go down.

I don't think that Wii U games will play on the wii, so it will be really bad if they do make one, I won't get it and I'll be sad

As much as some of us dislike it, the game industry has to move on sometime. I don't mind that the DS and Wii games are being fazed out. It's the natural process. I'm looking forward to the new HM games they will make on the new systems, particularly the WiiU, with the new technology and stronger system and all...=)
I have no idea why the games cost so much, though. =/ I hope that's a mistake. It has to be. There's no way they'd price the games so high! If they did, they'd lose business, because I doubt most people would shell out so much money for them.

I'm majoring in Game Design at my school and I was taught why games are so expensive. Basically, the money doesn't all go to the developer. In Harvest Moon's case, some of the money goes to Nintendo, some goes to the store you bought it at, some goes to Natsume, and the rest goes to Marvelous. That's the general idea, but the money goes through other departments in those 4 companies. Basically, at the end, Marvelous only ends up with, lets say $10 or $5 out of the $35/40 that we paid for a handheld game.

I understand that, but... 100 dollars for a single game!? That's insane. I don't even think those games come with extra accessories that could explain the cost.
If that's the case, then there most be a lot of companies involved with the Wii U. =/ Or there's something we don't know about.
Either way, I'm still hoping it's a mistake.

I am also hoping it's a mistake. My family would
never spend a hundred dollars on a single game. We would spend over a hundred on a console, but we would not spend a hundred dollars on a game.
