Two Questions for Anyone Who's Bought ANB!

Sorry, this was most likely answered before, but I went through the entire discussion thread and couldn't find the information, so I apologize if this has been asked 19072350 times.
I remember in TToT, I forgot to buy fodder and the next two days were full-out rainy days. I was so worried and thought my animals would get sick for sure, but they didn't, and they didn't even lose a heart. I've played the game for three in-game years now, and none of them have ever gotten sick, ever (in contrast to the older games, where they kept getting sick no matter what I did...). So my first question is:
technically, do you ever need to buy fodder or chicken feed? Because after realizing how hard it was to make them sick, I just stopped wasting money and only bought pet food. Can I do that with ANB as well, or do you actually have to take better care of them to ensure they're healthy?
Also, are the stores similar to TToT in the sense that there's only 2 or 3 items for sale at a time, or is it like the older games where the shop inventory is the same and never changes, so you can just go in hoping to buy some rice and be guaranteed that there will be rice?
Thank you!

I have a question too. Is there a quick "shortcut" way to feed your animals in ANB? Sometimes if I find myself bored, I like to rush through a few weeks (or seasons) to get to a certain point in the game. For example in SI it takes your child 4 years to grow up and I couldn't stand to wait so long, or in AP winter is boring and the days in that game are so long. But I can't just sleep constantly because I have to go out and feed the animals or else they'll die. I know in SI there are sprites who can help you but only for a limited time and then they need to rest. And in AP you can't tell your family to feed the animals, only brush/milk/etc. So it makes it hard to rush through the days.

1. I dunno, some of the animals get sick more easily than others. It's more important to get food for livestock/poultry than pets. Pets can't die.
2. The shops have all items available (seasonally anyway)
3. Have your pets in charge of letting animals inside and outside. but if you do that you need to make sure grass is growing and stuff.. and chicken feed should be replaced every few days.

My yaks are the prissiest livestock I've ever had. I swear, one of them gets sick once a season, and I take great care of her >sigh Drama queen yak
You also can't make chicken feed, and they don't just eat grass/worms off the ground in this one. They also don't lay eggs if left out overnight.
You can tell if they're going to get sick if their "stress" gets too high. You can check that in the notebook with the rest of their stats. I like that; I can at least plan for when Drama Queen Yak is gonna throw a sick fit.

I've only had my llama get sick so far from lack of brushing. I skip a few days since they don't build up stress too quickly from not getting brushed. I check the animal notebook every night in case they're stressed or dirty.
You can get caught without any chicken feed which has happened to me once when I started playing. I always have a heap in storage now. I usually have grass outside as it looks nice with the animals and you have some back up fodder.

I thought of a question that I bet annoyed lots of people in ToTT: Are the shops open during full rainy days? Cam was the only brave one in ToTT who kept his store opened, and his store was outside!

Logic actually applies this time. The stores are open no matter the weather, except for the shops which are outside. They close on rainy days.
As a side note, there are no half-weather days like in TOTT , it's always the same weather throughout the day.

The most annoying part is that Neil's shop closes on rainy days. I had one week that was all rainy, except for one day which was a holiday... and I was out of chicken feed. Thank goodness I played the wifi animal land and happened to receive a chicken feed to get my chickens by. Now I stock up, 99 hays and 99 chicken feeds. When it gets down to 30 I buy 99 more. Making money isn't hard at all thanks to the wifi animal land which you can go to anytime for milks and wool. So buying 99x at a time isn't a burden.
I never take my animals out because it's so annoying, and they don't seem to get stressed. When Rod finally moves in they can go outside after I train my pets. Do the pets also move the chickens out or just livestock?

Do chickens feed on grass outside if you let them out, or do you have to give them actual chicken feed every day?

You can place down squares on the ground that hold chicken feed (up to 10 units each I think? 1 bag = 5 units), so if you have 2 of them outside and 2 chickens, then you can fill them up, have pets take charge of letting animals inside and outside, and not have to worry about them much for 10 days.
Regular livestock is a little harder because you have to brush them occasionally, and yaks/llamas are more easily stressed. If you plan on hibernating at least keep a stock of medicine.

I didn't know that the feeders can hold up to more than one bag (x_x). I should start using this method.

Thanks, everyone!
OH SORRY another quick question, the Harvest Goddess doesn't show up all the time in this game, does she? Like "DUM DA DAAA you've ridden 1000 steps on your horse!!" or anything like that, right? Please tell me she doesn't.

I dunno, but I'm sure we would've seen several complaint topics about it at this point if she did. I hated when she did that. I lost so many fish to her inane squealing.

Wow, that would be annoying. No she doesn't show up to tell you the little things like that. You get letters in the mail to tell you that.
The Harvest Goddess will only appear early morning to tell you about a game mechanic, like marriage or the wi-fi system. It's only happened twice if I recall correctly.
You can summon her at her pond and she will do the annoying "Dum da Daa!" but it's two lines of talking about the item you threw in then she's gone for the day.
