I've been giving Vaughan his favorite meals for 4 (in game) yrs now. I did the starry night fest with him and we even went walking on the beach together the next day after the festival. I tried proposing to him but he said he was flattered but hasn't thought about marriage yet. THE NEXT DAY I go to visit Reigs so he can give me a sunstone- and guess whose there proposing to Sabrina!!! So I wait until next Monday to talk to him and all he says is he's marrying Sabrina....>:( I was like.....DUDE! I just asked you to mary ME! We JUST had a lovely stroll on the beach! We just ate dinner at Marabells place!! WTH!!!!!!!
I gave him my feather again and he says the same thing!! That $@^%&%@&^@%!!!!!!!!!

Dude he's been using me for my mushroom dishes, hot milk, and porridge he never liked me at all!!!

Since I've never really got people with their rival, I don't really know how they worked. I guess if you had a certain number of heart points with them both, and saw their rival events, that happens.
Either marry someone else, or try again on the second file.

Yes, it really is too bad, but unfortunately you won't be able to convince him not to marry Sabrina. You should try someone else, you might like them.:D

Yes.....I really liked Denny, Shea, and Will....but....Its so weird that Vaughan would propose to Sabrina the day AFTER our date. D: lol I was like......."Was it something I said? D:"

If you want to prevent it next time you have to get Vaughn to red heart and keep it there before Year 3. Keep trying!^_^

I am so sorry D: I remember something similar happened to me, but in IoH. I tried showing the blue feather to everybody, and I wanted to marry Vaughn, but he said "not ready yet" (Or something), and then I go to Pierre and he accepts. >.> But yeah, that's why I *try* to avoid the rival scenes in all harvest moon games unless I am married. .n. But I also like Will :D Lol.

HECK NO!! Vaughan is such a jerk. After they got married I went to see him and give him a gift to say congrats and you know what he says?????? "Becareful working on the ranch....I keep forgetting how big my house is..."

Can't you just reload from your last save and avoid Regis' mansion until the window for their rival event is over? Then you can still collect your sunstone, and propose after you get Vaughn to red. But it sounds like you didn't want to marry Vaughn anyway xD

Anyways, I'm sorry that happened but calm down! Take a chill pill! You wanted to marry him and now you're all "I DON'T EVEN CARE HE CAN DIE I'LL SHOW HIMMM!!!" Ahaha it's ok, the game isn't out to get you. If you're gonna be mad at anyone, be mad at Sabrina. (I never liked her...)

REASON WHY THE FIRST THING I DO IN GAMES WITH RIVALS IS GET MARRIED.
I really don't know what to say, besides remember to learn from your mistakes, and carry that knowledge on to another save file.
Or, of course you could do what cinnamon said.
