I pretty much agree with all of this. My only thing to say is that him sounding abusive isn't because he says mean things. I know how that is. It's the way he treats the MC. The biggest thing that bothers me is the "Be grateful" after he pays any attention or does anything not for himself. Along with the the whole "Whats yours is mine and whats mine is also mine. What? Don't like that? Soon that'll be the only way you want it to be.", that's just... really creepy. You could take that as teasing, of course. But nothing about it comes off that way to me. I haven't read ALL of his dialogue, and not all that I have read has been abusive/mean obviously. Part of it is the arrogant attitude, it's a humongous turn-off for me. Honestly though, I agree with a lot of what has been said about Allen because some of the things he says are kind of abusive and it worries me a little that I like him. I would never go after a guy like that in real life and I'm not even 100% sure why I am in a game. I guess there are a lot of little reasons. Since it's a video game, I don't take his lines seriously, so a lot of them make me laugh because they are so ridiculous. As much as I wouldn't like to admit it, a little of the attraction is purely physical. (I have such a glasses fetish.) But I think one of the main reasons I don't mind it is my own personal headcanon that a lot of the lines are meant in a teasing way. Some people just have a sense of humor that involves playful insults. I personally inherited it from my mom. With people that I'm close to I'll often say "mean" things. I have one friend who I often drive to church and a small group I'm in and it's become a running gag that whenever I get to her house when I'm dropping her off I say, "Get out." I'm the type of person who can joke with a straight face, but all my friends know that I'm not being serious and they laugh about it rather than getting their feelings hurt. My mom and dad do the same type of playful poking at each other even though they really love each other. Now, obviously, you can only do this with someone who thinks it's funny as well or it's just mean, which is why I only do it around people I'm friends with or comfortable around. Also, I think Allen probably means what he is saying a bit more than I do, but I imagine my character playfully teasing Allen as well and I think that conclusion is supported by a few things he says. That doesn't mean I like everything Allen says (I was a little pissed when he made me do the dishes), but I like the rest of the stuff he says enough to make up for it.
In real life you can generally tell when someone is taking part in mutual teasing versus just being mean, but when it's only text and there's no voice acting or anything, a game is a lot more open to interpretation, especially when we don't really see the main character's reaction to things. I don't mean that you have to agree with my interpretation or that you should just assume that someone in real life is just being playful. You have to be really careful in real life because it has far more reaching consequences than a game and you can't just reset if you decide you don't like the guy you went with after all. However, I do think that there's more than one way of looking at Allen that's valid.
Another thing is if you like the way he is acting in terms of possessiveness and such, that really isn't a bad thing. Consenting D/s relationships are fun and good and not abuse!
I hope I'm not upsetting people by being so negative about Allen. I am not trying to say anyone is wrong for liking him, and it's fine to like whatever fictional guy you want haha. I just want to raise awareness! And.. Iunno discuss a character that they made that is so very different from the usuals we get.

It depends on how you read his lines, too. Like when he says be grateful, I'm imagining in my head it's this arrogant guy who's winking at me playfully. Like, he's teasing more over being truly abusive.
Cause I really don't get an abusive vibe from him. He doesn't put the MC down or verbally insult her. He thinks he's total hot stuff (which he is) but I don't get this vibe that he REALLY wants to hurt anyone. I think if Marvelous or Natsume thought he was on that side of the spectrum they would have changed his lines more.

Honestly with the whole character is a jerk thing going on, I'm starting to think after a while, none of them are, but the creators did a darn good job of making them abrasive and down right rude until you get to know them. I hardly get rude comments from Allen now that he's at red heart, and from the dialogue I posted, it's obvious Neil is an undercover sweet heart. I'm now starting to believe you have to give everyone a shot. (I mean, look at Klaus! He's not a marriage candidate, but he, quite frankly put, is an « Mr.Gourmet's hat » until you befriend him. )

I do agree with Klaus, when I first met him, he was just an « Mr.Gourmet's hat », but me being me, I like to give everyone a chance of my friendship, and I gave him gifts everyday. That's fine if you imagine it that way... but most of his lines he seems to deliver with a pretty straight face. A lot of the things he says are things that make it sound like you inconvenience him, how you owe him, and how him giving you any attention is a blessing unto you. He obviously seeks control, the problem is he doesn't care whether the MC is okay with that or not. Since the MC is our character, you can easily rp it as anything you want. Allen is not an abuser, as he isn't real and the dynamic with the MC is completely up to your interpretation. Plenty of things that are much much much more problematic and offensive get published and created daily. Marvelous/Natsume are not exempt from this simply cause the games they make are more innocent. I also don't believe that they shouldn't have created Allen, or that they should have changed his dialogue.
Abuse is not as clear cut as simply insulting someone or putting them down. There are a lot of forms of abuse. Abusers don't always realize they are being mean or hurting others.
