Not getting to in-depth into the meaning of them, these cutscenes are pure hilarity, not gonna lie. But yeah, Toni is just annoying.

Hina and Niko are so cute though! At the Pumpkin Festival Hina had some line bashing Toni about something he did, I wish I had written it down. :c

Perhaps Toni could have had more tact, but he's still young. Rebecca can teach him, she's his mother. But dude, Tina physically attacking a child? Not cool, not cool! o_o; Especially since she's like 19-21, and Toni is probably like 10. Dude. Hurting children, major pet peeve of mine. I don't care how sensitive you are about your weight, you don't hurt children. D8; If Toni was the same age, it might have been funny, except lashing out violently is not a good thing at all. I'm fairly chubby in real life and have had children point it out in a very rude or tactless way, and 99% of the time they don't realize how rude they are being. It's why you be patient with children and talk to their parents. A child only turns out as well as his parent raises him, you know?

Drama over fictional characters, I know, but seriously now. o_o;

"No thanks, I'm jogging." How hard is that? Apparently VERY hard, for poor fishing Tina. she mentioned her weight, it's painfully obvious she wants to hear that she doesn't need it, and instead Toni gives her *gasp* the truth. News flash, stuffing your face in between meals doesn't help. Hearing about how it helps absolutely nothing is more helpful than 'lawl it's okay sweety your going good on ur diet lolz!' Instead of taking it as valid criticism like a sane normal person, she flips « Cow Poopoo » because she doesn't hear what she wanted to hear.

And once. Again. If she didn't want Toni talking about her weight, don't jabber on about it! It's common sense once someone jabbers on about something, it's out there for discussion. If someone doesn't want that, don't talk about it. "oh yeah I'm trying to lose weight by jogging and I'm trying to maintain how totalee beautiful I am and all of my meals - WHOA WHOA, YOU'RE RESPONDING TO WHAT I'M SAYING, YOU CAN'T DO THAT.' What crazy flapjack of a person does that?

And anime? LOL, try..any cartoon ever. Simpsons ring a bell? But you can't whip out the 'humorous' excuse now. The whole. Entire. Event. Is meant to be humorous. you can't just take one side of it and judge the everliving hell out of Toni and when I do the same for Tina go 'LOL gawd it's just humor geez.'

Plenty of people don't mind bringing up their weight, and not because they are fishing for compliments. I've already said and you seem to be ignoring that Toni didn't need to say anything to her. Because... it's not any of his business. It's not Toni's body, it's Tina's. She can eat a lot and then go jogging if she wants. Guess why??? Because it's HER BODY. I AM NOT SAYING HE NEEDS TO COMPLIMENT HER. I'm saying he doesn't need to say anything. Cause it's not his business. Again, pretty sure Tina doesn't need a CHILD to validate her. She wasn't jabbering. She said I'm going jogging cause I gained weight. It's too bad she said it in a way that you don't approve. The fact that her mentioning her weight at all evokes such an angry reaction from you is kinda scary. Why does her mentioning it bother you so much? Can she not talk about herself or why she does things without being an "airhead" or "fishing for compliments"? Is it WRONG to eat whatever you want and then go jogging? I just don't understand the hatred for someone who is insecure.

I didn't think it was humorous, and I fully understand the entire scene was supposed to be humorous. I just don't think policing other people's bodies is funny. Just like I don't think hurting children is funny. I was simply pointing out that Tina being insecure and wanting to take care of herself warranted so much hatred and defending a bratty child was okay but the stupid slapstick was OMG SO BAD. I think the whole scene was terrible and exasperating.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about Niko's dialogue?

I think he's kind of a ditz. He might mention his weight/food a bit to much though.

Why the hell am I repeating myself to you for the fourth time? That's just ridiculous. You say it's not his business. For the last bloody time, once she brought it up into conversation, she made it fine for anyone to comment on it. That's all there is to it. If she didn't want that, then she should shut up. Toni didn't even care about her weight when she first brought it up, he just said it sounded boring (wow, a kid thinks jogging is boring, who woulda thought!) and, once again, she flips « Cow Poopoo » and goes on a tirade about her looks and her meals, and he pointed out that she did her meals all wrong. Once again, much more useful than blindingly patting her on the back and telling her good job. She's an unlikeable boring superficial psycho « Baaaa *glomp* ». Better than Michelle, granted, but still.

And no, she can, but I've ran into more than enough dolts in real life who fish for compliments and I know it when I see it. This is one of those times.

And once again, no, you can't just make half of it serious and the other half humorous at your convenience. When I saw the scene, I laughed and moved on, but if people are going to respond to the event seriously, then yes, Tina abuses children, Tina is insecure and high maintanence, Toni is brutally honest as kids are wont to do, and Tina doesn't like hearing the truth despite how much it may help her.

That's why I'm curious. He's really, really self-deprecating about his weight. I find it much more depressing than anything in the event we're talking about here.

EDIT: Woah, stuff is getting heated in here! I guess I'll throw in my two cents.

First, weight in this Harvest Moon game is kind of controversial. Niko's constantly putting himself down about it, then we have this event, then we have the Rebecca's breasts comment, and I honestly think Michelle is the most anorexic portrait of a character we've ever had in HM. (I might marry her in my second file, so this isn't to knock her, but...)

I mean, obviously the funny part about the scene is that both Toni AND Tina are acting out of line. Toni shouldn't be talking back to a lady about her weight, it's just bad manners -- I'm sure Rebecca would give him a wallop if she heard him talk like that. But Tina shouldn't be violent towards Toni after receiving that kind of response. So the funny thing is that they're BOTH acting like kids.

Maybe the better thing to discuss here is the cultural norms that are behind this game. I mean, in Japan it's nowhere near as bad as in Korea, or China, but anorexia and body modification (in S.Korea, a lot of women will have really extensive surgery to look perfect, it's like a normal thing to do now) are huge issues in East Asia. If Asia keeps shrinking its ideal image of the human body, and we keep importing those images in media, is the Western image going to be even more tiny than it already is, too?

Should it be? I mean, if we want to talk about this seriously, America has a huge problem with weight. Both backwards AND forwards. We may be one of the fattest nations (the fattest?), but we also have such a tiny ideal body image. I mean, the modeling agencies are starting to put laws about how the models have to be eating properly, because people all want 00s in high fashion.

It's great to love your body, and it's important not to attack people based on their looks, but weight is a legitimate health problem. As someone who's been bouncing back and forth between slightly overweight and almost at my perfect weight for the past three years now, I know from experience that being thinner just feels better. You feel a lot healthier. But I also have a friend who is below her target weight and just can't seem to gain enough. In middle school, someone wrote in a textbook that she was an anorexic « Baaaa *glomp* », and people would make fun of her for drinking diet soda (which she did because her dad is a diabetic). So it's not that being fat is so awful, being overly thin is, too. It's about having a healthy body, and a healthy body image.

You just can't reduce these complicated things to blame one person or another. If you want to talk about these issues seriously, address the actual issues.

D; Really? That's sad. I only just unlocked him and I've heard him say tons of things about food, but not his weight yet. :c

Yeah, it kind of sucks. In the winter one of his default lines is "I guess the cold doesn't bother me because I'm fat," and there's a bunch of lines where he's like, "Everyone says I'm fat and that I need to work out to get thin. Can you teach me how to exercise?"

I feel pretty bad for starting this topic. I didn't want to stir up « Cow Poopoo ». And to be honest, I didn't think either of the events I posted were funny at all. I just commented on Toni because what he said bugged me more.

I haven't seen the event yet so I can't form a full opinion on it. But based on the description I don't really see any reason to hate Toni, he was just being honest with her.

He was really just being a kid. Of course the idea of jogging is going to be boring to him. Just like the idea of sitting down and doing algebra all day would seem boring to many people. Tina was honestly offended for no reason by such an innocent comment from Toni. He thought jogging was boring, no need to get your panties in a knot.

But for some reason Tina did and decided to go lecture Toni on his opinion and describe how watching her weight is important and how she carefully watches what she eats. Then Toni once again is just telling the truth, saying how he has seen her snacking a lot and she has gained some weight in some areas. Tina obviously offended by the truth lashes out at Toni. Toni going on the defensive says it's no ones fault but hers that she's fat. We all say things we don't mean when we're angry, especially if we're the ones being yelled at. I can't really hate Toni for such a comment since Tina was the one getting angry at him when he was being truthful.

Tina brought the discussion about her weight on herself. She should have left Toni's comment about jogging being boring slide instead of bring up her appearance which essentially opened it up for discussion since it was the only thing Tina was talking about.

I like both Tina and Toni so this event really has no affect on how I view either of them. I can understand Tina being insecure about her weight as many girls are. But I respect Toni for his honesty even if it is blunt.

This :D

And Candy, don't worry about it, lol -- the people who are being really outspoken are often outspoken about other things, too ;P

It is, and it's good she's jogging, but I'm not even talking about her actual weight (it's obvious she looks fine anyway, if you want to get right down to it), I'm talking about the socializing with Toni. She brings up a subject, he makes a comment about the jogging portion of it, then she gets crazy offended and goes on about her diet, so he makes a comment about her diet being whack, and she proceeds to be even more crazy offended. I honestly fail to see what he did wrong, whether it was a child or adult, male or female, if something is wrong with someone's diet, in all freakin' honesty someone else is doing them a kindness pointing it out. If she cared that much about her weight in the first place, she'd realize the criticism is valid and correct it, not wig out on the person giving her the cold hard truth to a subject that she started talking about in the first place.
