Faye Scarlet wrote:Well to be fair, Rebecca seems to be a bit careless as a mother. o_o She's always up late, and I don't know what time she returns home. Toni always wanders off alone, too, unless it's meal time. Being neglected can make a child a bit rude. I'm not calling Rebecca a bad mom, but you think she would teach her son to know better.
I've noticed this, too. I'm not really a fan of Rebecca (which is a shame because I love her design). She seems like she's pretty careless at kind of rude, too, so maybe that's where he gets it. (Idk, just some of her comments/the way she talks just rubs me the wrong way...that's actually the case with quite a few people in this game! Hm...)
Maybe has something to do with the characters having more depth and realism this time, thus making them more well-rounded and interesting. They may not ALL exist EXACTLY as they do in this game, but I feel like I would know a Toni, a Rebecca, an Allen, a Hana, a Michelle...

I like that. They have flaws. They're nowhere near perfect. They say and do stupid or rude things sometimes. They've got vices. I feel like I'm back in Mineral Town, and I love that.
I'm all for character flaws, but when it comes at the expense of being believable, that's when I raise an eyebrow.

For example, if someone built my house for me, I sure as hell wouldn't urge them to leave if they weren't going to be spending money at my shop, regardless of my personality "flaws". And, IMHO, I think this accounts moreso to lazy writing than character depth. Most of the character retain the same personality towards your character, regardless of how close you are to them. (I mean, I have Neil up to a red heart and he still tells me to get lost? Allen tells me not to bother him in the morning and looks annoyed, even when he's at a full heart, too?)

These aren't character traits, it's just the writers forcing a constant personality for the price of growth/relationship development.

okay... so i'll just say one thing. I used to be fat. i mean really, really fat. we're talking almost 200 pounds here. and i worked my « Mr.Gourmet's hat » off to lose all that weight and become the person i am today, I'm stronger, happier, healthier, and over all a more upbeat enjoyable person.
so i myself a very conscious of my weight. So if i eat something bad for me and go jogging to make up for it, so i never have to go back to that awful place, or i tell someone that i can't eat something cause of the calorie count, or i tell someone i'm out there not to get fat... its not okay to call me an attention whore who's just digging for compliments. so i'll be honest seeing the negative posts against tina? really hurt my feelings.
I'm not going to get bent out of shape about it.
but i just think that those of you who are saying bad things about her for discussing her weight with others need to try to see it from her perspective. maybe she talks about it to help hold herself accountable for what she does. i do that when i start getting off track, i also tell people why i count my calories or why i exercise. cause its important to be healthy.
be who you wanna be and all that « Puppy Doodoo », but being fat? its not a statement its a health hazard and it makes life less enjoyable and less fulfilling.

anyway, i don't want to start an argument so i'll just ignore you if you try to instigate one from what i'm saying, i'm just trying to let you know, worrying about your weight? isn't always a bad thing. don't be anorexic. but don't be fat either. there is a happy medium.
and some of us just have to try harder to maintain it.

While I generally agree with your overall statement(s), but I based on what I think you are trying to express, I disagree with the idea that you should bother people about their appearance. Being fat is a health issue (although, being skinny can be too, it's not necessarily about how much you weigh, but what you eat too), but people are allowed to live their lives how they want. Somebody may disapprove a person's livestyle and may not be attracted to an overall appearance, but too bad so sad. A person's appearance is their own business, and if they are happy, leave them alone. If they want to change, they can always look out for help that they need.

However, I may have misinterpreted your statements, so...yeah.

...yeah i think you did but i might have said it in a confusing way... the general point was don't be mean to people who watch their weight. cause it hurts to be called an attention whore when you work so hard just to be average size.

I have already said the only thing I took issue with was the comment about Tina saying it to be an attention whore. I honest to « Harvest Goddess » do not care about the scene because it is dumb. I'm just very bad at forming coherent sentences and keeping my thoughts organized.

But um, really? I don't think anyone was actually upset. I sure wasn't. I didn't know posting on a forum where we are allowed to voice our opinions was wrong unless we are all agreeing with eachother and patting eachother on the butts. Also lol, weight is a big issue in real life and not because of the fat people making a "big deal" out of it.

That's great that these characters are so wonderful for you. But not everyone thinks that. And everyone is entitled to not only voice that opinion, but discuss it with eachother. I don't see anyone forcing anything on anyone. Example?

I am completely and utterly able to hate a character based on the things they do and say in this game. I don't know what makes you think that not liking characters for their... character is somehow wrong. It's a game, they aren't real and not liking them does not affect anyone. At all. Except people that for some reason take offense when the characters they like are insulted or not liked. I don't care enough about fictional characters to "hate" them, but I sure don't like a lot of them and I have no obligation to just because you feel they are so "deep" and "well written".
Why are you getting defensive toward me, where in my original message did I say that this was directed at you? You've basically made this about you now. And honestly, people are always getting upset or arguing about something in this game. It's just a game, and I don't see the point in that. The charaters aren't real, it isn't a real place, it's a made up story that keeps you occupied. Aso I already said in my original post that people are entitled to their views but it's when people take things so out of perspective and start to argue and get upset because of the most stupid thing that things get absolutely rediculous.

I also really wish you'd stop trying play the 'fat card' - 'weight is a big issue in real life and not because of the fat people making a "big deal" out of it' - here's the thing; you know nothing about me as a person so therefore you don't know that I used to be over weight. I was over weight but I didn't make a huge deal out of it, I knew I was fat so I did something about it. I'm now on the other end of the spectrum - I am under weight. I have been through both being fat and being diagnosed with a form of annorexia in the past as well but this wasn't because weight was a big deal, it was because things were happening in my life that triggered the drastic change. Things that were far more of an impact than weight. So no, I stand by my original statement that weight is a big deal because people make it a big deal; I also never said that just fat people make a big deal out of it so I have no idea where you got that from. You can still love yourself when you're fat, you're still a person, you can still be attractive. You can get called names, be pressured by the media but who the « Snuggly Bunny » cares? Don't make a big deal out of it and let it make you insecure - who the hell cares what other people think?

Also, I never said DON'T hate a character because of his/her views. I said you shouldn't. I say this simply because in real life would you really discount a friendship or person and hate them because they had different views as you? Because I sure wouldn't. If their views aren't things that would impact your life or endanger your life why does it matter that someone has a different view to you whether they are real or not? It seems judgemental and stubborn to simply be like 'I hate you because your views aren't the same as mine'. I understand the person might be annoying in a sense because their views are different, but then it's still no need to hate them.

Also again, you are telling me I'm wrong for liking these characters and feeling that they're a lot deeper than the previous ones they have made. You also appear to be passively saying I take offense when I don't. I'm just tired of the complaining that people always do over characters being different, or usually, mean. I never said they were well written by the way. They're far from as good as they could be, but it's certainly a huge step up from the previous flat characters in other games.

If you want to know how you're rubbing people the wrong way I'll tell you - you just don't know when to back off. You say you're not shoving your opinions down peoples throats, yet in your previous argument about a week ago or whatever you replied to every post the person you were arguing with posted constantly asking the same things and saying the same « Puppy Doodoo » even though they had explained why they felt the way they did at least 5 times to you. You would not accept that they had a different view to you, you refused to just accept that and instead kept pressuring them and telling them that they were basically wrong. Sure discuss your opinions and express your views, but do not shove your opinions down peoples throats like that. If you don't agree with someone elses opinion then why cant you just accept their opinions even if you don't like them? You can't convert someone to your way of thinking. You were just constantly coming across that way and coming across as really bitter and stubborn. Aside from that argument you also proceed to ask people questions constanly, asking for examples of this and that to prove that you're wrong or that person is actually right - you are basically setting yourself up for people to start arguing with you and you need to stop if conflict isn't even what you want. If you can't see any of this, then that's your problem; because I'm not going to be bothering with you anymore if you start probing me for questions about my reply like you have with so many other people. I will not sit here answering rediculous questions and gving you examples of things to prove that I am correct because you're too blind to see what you're doing and why you're rubbing people the wrong way, so I'm done.

Oh « Harvest Goddess ». I'm glad I decided to read those before seeing them in game. I wasn't going to, but then saw some of the heated comments and how many pages the thread was :(

Both of those conversations are supposed to be funny. Japanese media just loves to distinguish strongly between weights and chest sizes. It's not funny to me. It's just another thing to make people feel stress. Tons of people are gaining extra weight with how our diets have changed, how even the food, water and air have changed, and chest sizes are probably changing too as puberty is coming earlier with all the additional improper hormones we're getting. But is someone better or worse for their appearance? What matters is that you're healthy, that you have ENERGY, that you're HAPPY. Everyone can find different appearances attractive, but people often don't LET themselves even think about it, because of what they learn from our media and all the « Cow Poopoo » that our cultures have adapted to!

I used to feel terrible for my appearance, and even more so when I learned I WASN'T supposed to feel bad about it, that it was MY fault for worrying, that all I had to do was be CONFIDENT. I knowingly put my own self worth, my value as a human being, in the hands of everyone around me instead of myself, and I admitted that freely. Even if you know something isn't your fault, even if you know "SOME people accept me", you still want EVERYONE to accept you and admire you. There's always someone better, all women are in the same endless battle against each other whether they like it or not, and you can never win it all. I hated that.

What finally made me realize it's okay to be my own judge of my self worth, is pretty simple... I just had to think of it in a different way than I allowed myself. It's that when everyone else is responsible for deciding what your value is, they will constantly be pressured by you, and you won't even realize it. It pushes people away. They dislike it, and with that, can easily dislike you for it. How many people could you handle being responsible for the self worth of? It's a tiring, unpleasant profession.

I'm sorry Meevers, but first I would like to point out that depression is very high because many people don't have the confidence that you do regarding weight and peer pressure. You may be a strong person, but many people aren't. That's why people go into depression or gain addictions. I personally don't think that one sentence counts as getting defensive.
I think Kisari just means that s/he thinks that you're trying to convince her that they aren't that bad and pushing and that's what s/he doesn't like, not that you're wrong for liking the characters.

Personally I think this large argument thingy is partially due to the fact that you both interpret things differently, perhaps more simple statements would help?

As I said: I'm done with this, and therefore don't really give a « Puppy Doodoo » anymore.
