Yes, it will be called the Nintendo Revolution. It should come out around the end of 2005 towards 2006. Around the same time as the launch date of Ps3 and X-box 2. I dunno much more than that.

The console is almost guaranteed to not be called Revolution. Revolution is the code name for the system. All of nintendo's systems go by their code name for a long time. Various examples:

Ultra 64 became N64
Dolphin became Gamecube
Nitro became DS
Advanced GB became GBA (lol not a big leap there)

Revolution will undoubtedly get a final name at E3 this year. Also, as I stated in the other thread X-box2 is planned for a release at the end of this year and PS3/revolution will see an early to mid 2006 release.

An interesting thing to note... the code names for the systems lives on, in the identifying tag of the game and system. All GCN games for example have a tag that has DOL on it (short for dolphin), as do all DS games have NTR (nitro) on theirs.

I read this in the newest "Electronic Gaming Monthly"

Nintendo Revelution has and plan release around the same time as the PS3 in late 2006!!!! Hooray!!!!

The Nintendo DS was never labeled Nitro. I qoute Game Informer on this.

No, they just don't have a killer starting line-up. The N64 didn't have one either.

The GC did though. But the PS2 already dominated the markets.

Nitro WAS the developtment name. Nintendo never announced the system publically under it's developtment name that's why everyone assumed the DS was going to get a name change.

I'll dig up the IGN articles. The proof was on the nintendo developer's site before the system was released and in the NTR on the DS cartridges. I'll edit this post with the IGN links in just a moment.

So more or less we were both right. DS was the original name then nintendo made it's official internal code name nitro. When release came around they decided to name it the DS again. Wacky nintendo.

It's codename of nitro is why the first 3 identifying digits on all DS carts reads NTR. (metroid prime first hunt is NTR-AMFE-USA for the US version as an example)

-update 2- Other examples of this naming scheme. HM: AWL DOL-GYWE-USA and HM: FoMT AGB-A4NE-USA. ^_^ It's really not important at all. But I think it's neat that nintendo retains the code names.

Anyhow......the DS is WAY overpriced. It's not exactly what I expected, but it shouldn't be under a disapointment thing.

It's still very advanced for a Advance system. But the SP beats it on many counts.

Actually I wouldn't say it's overpriced. The SP was $100 till just 3-4 months ago and the DS is obviously a more advanced system. The problem is there are no really good DS games out that justify owning one.

Honestly I bought mine just because I always buy a nintendo console at release. But I'm not a hardcore nintendo fanboy. I have an x-box and I used to have a playstation before it died -_-. I'll probably buy a revolution and a PS3 since I got screwed over for not getting a PS2 last gen. Besides if the PS3 is still backwards compatible I'll hopefully be able to pick up old PS2 RPGs cheap.

As it is for the DS, I'm waiting for the harvest moon game, animal crossing, a new zelda or two (^_^) and hopefully a few other good and truly online games.

Yes the DS is more advanced running off Currently existing technology, *Cough Cough* Touch Screen *Cough*. But other than that Your right the DS isn't overpriced but it sure needs better games if it wants to make even more sales.
