All I need to do to complete Restoration #5 is a Lavish Fountain, and to do that I need 10 pearls!! Where the heck do I get those??

The Southern Island.

On the small island they appear and you can catch them in the fishing trap spot there as well.

You can also trap fish for pearls, thankfully. And believe me, pearls aren't nearly as painful as getting the five ancient clay figures needed just to build Witch's house!

I never caught pearls with the fish traps and they are not listed as an item that can be caught with the fish traps. I was able to get more than 1 pearl on a couple of occasions, once two were in the surf and once two were on the little island. The rest came singly and it took me about 15 visits. You can save and reload, but the items won't change if you go back the same day. I even tried taking a nap and trying again and they did not change.. The only thing you can do is decide if you want to not go after all and do something else instead. Most of the time even when I did not get pearls, I did get blueprints or something else useful out of the trip.

Confusingly, it's not listed in the Fish Trap items in the Southern Island section, but it's mentioned in the "Fish Traps" section.

Besides fish, you can collect various other items inside of a Fish Trap. In all of the trapping spots you can find Bottle, Can, Fish Bones, Old Boot, Small Rock, Rock, Black Rock, Small Branch, Branch, Black Branch, Coin, Old Coin, and Shiny Coin. When using a Fish Trap at the Southern Island, you can also find Coral, Pearl, and Sea Urchin.

I've also been save-reloading fish traps for blueprints, but never once I saw a pearl.

I can confirm - I HAVE gotten pearls from fish traps there at least twice. (two different trips) I haven't caught that king crab thing yet though. ^_^

I've gotten 3 pearls out of a fish trap before! It saved me so much agony :3

If I had known I would've reload trip for coconut and reload trap for pearls.
Why did I fool myself into thinking I can't trap pearls..

Trapping pearls is the best! I once got 4 pearls from 1 trap, but they're kind of a fish trapping rarity.

Can also confirm that I was able to get 14 pearls in one trip just off of fish traps. The saving/reloading was VERY tedious to get that many.

Remember to save 2-3 minutes BEFORE the trap will shake. Once the trap starts to shake, the "catch" is already determined.

I wish I'd known about the traps. I always had them going. But at the same time I usually arrived around 6:14 pm and so I never had more than a couple of rounds of fish trap gathering. Dang. Hindsight is 20/20 and it is good to know for the next game I eventually start!

Guess who just lucked out and got five pearls from a fish trap on the first try? Like what others said, it's possible, but rare; this is only the second time I got any pearls inside my fish trap.
