How good is this game?

It's very easy to screw yourself out of a lot of time if you mess up,although I've found that the community is quite nice and helps out A LOT if you do so. Wifi trading is very important in this game,it makes a lot of things in the game much easier. It's not a bad game,I enjoy it. It's a little different, but all HM games are just that smidgen different. I'd recommend it.

In my opinion, it's one of the best portable HM games thus far. It's comparable to the console games in the amount of content and how it plays. HUGE improvement over GB and ToTT.
Also, I agree that the community really helps make the game more enjoyable.

Subjectively (i.e., in terms of my personal enjoyment of it), it's one of my top five favorites in the series.
Objectively (i.e., in terms of how well the gameplay works, how well-developed the characters and story are, and how well the story and gameplay elements mesh), it's probably either the best or second best game in the series.
In short, it's very good. It's not perfect, and as a veteran to the series you'll probably get bored during the first month in which nothing happens, but once the game actually gets going it really gets going. The new gameplay elements are fun and interesting, and unlike some of the other newer installments in the series (coughGrandBazaarcough) I get the sense that the developers actually gave half a « Cow Poopoo » about making a game that is, y'know, fun.
I don't know if I would say it's worth the $50 it costs for the 15th Anniversary Edition (which I'm not even sure is still available, or if that was a limited-time only deal), but then again, I don't think any video game is worth $50. $40 is still expensive, but it's reasonable and you probably won't end up feeling like you wasted your money.

If you play it solo like older HM games, it's slower but still very do-able. I'd rather face the setbacks and failures of running a farm and then getting things done by myself. It's part of what make HM games so addicting and engrossing for me.
It's as good as all the HM games were - with some things missing and a whole lot more added. Very fun.

I have played every US-released Harvest Moon title from Back to Nature onwards, and I have to say this game is the best so far compared to the portable releases. Cannot really count Harvest Moon DS and DS Cute because they are (more or less) are recycled from the older games. But this game is totally a huge improvement from GB or ToTT.
The beginning was very draggy, though. But that would be a minor problem if you have played a lot of Harvest Moon games.

I played solo as I have no wifi and even so I can say its enjoyable. I feel this game was a very big and important step for the hm series. This is the first game I ever didn't get married in the first year because I didn't feel I needed too. Their was so much to do! Customizing your farm and town is really fun :D as is collecting all the blueprints and recipies. The vacations are a fun idea. All in all, the game mechanics and story line play out very well... ofcourse it has its flaws (time managment, very long to unlock some stuff, limited moneysinks, meh bachelorettes imo)its a very enjoyable game and one I feel I will play for a very long amount of time, excellent purchase. I'm in year 3 of my first file and don't see myself stopping till year 5... and then starting a girl file :D
