Fire Emblem Awakening: Who's ready to start matchmaking?
I prefer My Unit, just because that's what they called the custom player character in Heroes of Light & Shadow, and in Awakening prior to localization.
So it is pretty much stuck in my psyche, not to mention it sounds a lot less generic.
Though in Heroes of Light & Shadow, the things you could customize where a little differnt. Like in Awakening you could set there gender, name, appearance(though to a far more limited degree), and tweek their stats a little. Though those were the only similarities. IN HoL&S you could set your background, rather than the character having a set background(for you to discover through the story) that is in Awakening. And you could choose between several classes Mercenary, Fighter, and Knight were available to male units; Myrmidon and Pegasus Knight for female units; and Archer, Cavalier, and Mage were available to both. Awakening's MU has a set class but can be changed into any class except Lord, Great Lord, Villager, Dancer, Taguel, Manakete, Star Lord, and Overlord. As far as I'm aware the only gender exclusive classes for the MU are the DLC ones Bride(female) and Demon Fighter(male).

I'm fine with a majority of the localized names we've had so far, although it's no surprise I have some bias for certain characters, since I've been keeping track of the game for... 2 months short of a year. When I found out Velvet was renamed Panne, I was kind of down in the dumps :'I But I do like how Serge was changed to Cherche.
I think there's also others in Awakening like for males:Osuchin wrote: As far as I'm aware the only gender exclusive classes for the MU are the DLC ones Bride(female) and Demon Fighter(male).
Fighter
Barbarian
Priest
for females:
Troubadour
Pegasus Knight
Cleric
I'm okay with some name changes, but I just can't tell who's who by their new names now. >__>
@Lon Lon
It looks like that is the case.
I hadn't seen any info prior.
But I just saw it on the FE wiki.
I also wanted to note that children characters will inherit the last skill from each of their parents.
This can allow children to get skills not normally obtainable through class changing.
Such as if Valhart is Mark's father he can inherit Valhart's unique skill Conqueror, which negates armor type weaknesses.
Or if Inverse is Mark's mother she can inherit Dark Blessing, which allows her to use dark magic regardless of her class.
In the case of Krom's and Lucina's children they can inherit either Aether(if they are female) or Royal Weapon(if they are male).
Aether is a randomly activated ability that can allow the unit to attack twice using attacks that mimic the Sol and Luna skills.
One attack ignoring 1/2 of the enemy's Resistance and Defense stats, and the other restoring the users HP in proportion by 1/2 of the damage dealt.
Royal Weapon makes randomly activated abilities more likely to activate in combat.
Though given Lucina can only have a child with MU, the only child she can have is a female Mark.
Also Mark's starting class is the same as MU's spouse.
With the exception if they are a Lord(or Great Lord), Dancer, or Overlord.
In which case Mark will start with the Strategist class.

Though looking at Priest and Cleric I don't get why they are a seperate class, since it seems they have the same stats, weapons, abilities, their battle form promotions are exactly identical in how they perform, and they can both promote to Sage.fireemblem.wikia.com wrote:Class Sets

I haven't really been following this game but is has caught my interest. I've never played FE before (I want PoR but it's soooo rare), so do you guys think that this would be a good FE for a beginner? :'D
The marriage part of is game really appeals to my inner shipper. It also seems that Nintendo is using the same dubbing studio that they used for KI:U, and I'm a voice acting freak so I'm sure to squee whenever I hear a familiar VA.
