Either GB or ToTT. I feel like GB was worse and the only reason I played it more was because it was back when I still had some patience for the series. And for awhile the bazaar amused me. But in ToTT I didn't even make it through the first summer :/ I think what really kills the games is the blandness of the characters. They were all so painfully boring.

And you have to sleep to save. Sometimes I just want to play a little bit, like less than a day, why can't I?

Each game has its own charm & nifty gimmicks, so I can't really bring myself to call any of them the worst.

However, there have been games that failed to draw me in, and I feel that perhaps if I'd kept playing I would've gotten into it, but I just don't want to invest the time in something that doesn't initially interest me.

And yeah, those games are IoH, GB, and ToTT.

I was skeptical about IoH and GB so I tried them both on an emulator, first. Once I was allowed to move freely in IoH, I was immediately turned off by the awful control scheme and I never touched it again. And later I'd heard about the weird crop watering system and I was glad I dropped it. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I wanted to like GB, but it just felt so cold and empty. I had nothing to do. A Harvest Moon game, where you can't find anything to do?? Preposterous. Combine that with having to wait through all these long, empty days just to sell my stuff on Saturday, and yeah, I dropped it pretty fast.
It's a shame, too, because the bachelors were really cute. ;n;

And...ToTT. Oh boy. What a let down. I was so excited for you, ToTT. I preordered you and got that adorable alpaca plushie. I just wanted to show you my love, but you had to go and shatter my heart.
The main turn-off of ToTT was YOU CAN'T PAUSE TIME LIKE ANYWHERE IN THE GAME. Unless you talk to someone or examine a sign.
Oh, and the "freshness" system. Glad they kicked that in ANB. :/
Also, the idea of TWO villages in an HM game had so much potential, but they just had to go and make the towns have some dumb rivalry between them so it took forever to travel from village to village until you did the « Baaaa *glomp* » Harvest Goddess's bidding and fixed the tunnel that SHE made collapse. Yeah, I didn't want to wait around to fix her stupid mistakes. Climbing up and down that mountain every day was such a pain.
I just didn't have the patience for this one. I wanted to stick around to see what kind of interesting gimmicks they had come up with for this one, but I was just so bored. Sad, really, I had taken a bit of a liking to Kana.
Also it's the game that solidified my hatred of the Harvest Goddess. >_<;

DS killed a lot of spark because not only was it super glitchy, it wasn't even fun for me anyway. I don't know, everything was so annoying and took forever and if you worked really hard for it your game glitched anyway. I also didn't really like the character art for DS...shame, because I liked the look of Skye, but I wasn't even interested in buying DS Cute, even without the glitches.

I liked IoH, and ToT was really good, but IoH had its annoyances and ToT's loading screens were so annoying. Plus I felt SO annoyed and taken advantage of when Sunshine Islands and AP were released because damn, if you're just going to release a polished version of an old game, just make the old game better!! Plus I did NOT think Bazaar and and ToTT looked good, and since everyone seems to agree they were not very good, looks like I was right.

I'm just glad ANB is better than what has been being released lately. Got my farming spark back.

Hahaha me too! ToTT was the first game I found myself actively hating the Goddess. I kind of wish WP was in that game (wait, was she and I forgot? ) so that she and I could hate the Goddess together :lala:

After thinking it through again.... yea ToTT is the worst HM game. Easy. IoH had bad controls but at least the townsfolk were INTERESTING

I guess I'm weird, because I honestly couldn't care less about the game mechanics. I could play it just fine; perhaps it was bothersome when you lost your stylus especially, and the fact that the AXYB buttons are completely useless could have ruined the experience a bit.
Personally, I missed Sun/Water points when I began playing ANB/ToTT. I felt so accomplished, like I'd figured out the puzzle once I finally got an S-ranked crop. I like the challenge IoH presents, and the planting season was by far and away the best part of the game aside from marrying Denny (where I'm still bitter about not getting a wedding outfit).
So I genuinely liked IoH. I guess that's assuring Natsume that IoH/SI had its audience.

Anyhow, I haven't played enough Harvest Moon to pass serious judgement, but I can safely say out of my five game collection Tale of Two Towns is the most frustratingly boring. I feel like I can't buy or do anything on my own because of the dang request board, I have to cook to unlock things, HG is ridiculously annoying and the bachelors in Bluebell are soooooo ugh.
Mrr. I wish IoH had ToTT's graphics.

YES. Why did they ever think only saving at night was a good idea? It's like they went backwards; although I haven't played the really early HM games, I know at least as early as MFoMT let you save wherever you wanted.

I'm kind of glad for this thread because my birthday is coming up and I have been promised money, with which I planned to buy a stupid amount of HM games.
I was particularly looking forward to TOTT but apparently I shouldn't get too excited ._. Of the few I have played, DS had only ever glitched for me twice which I can live with. I did dislike the stylus requirements in IoH but the characters kept me interested.
I can't pass any judgement yet but I will buy my games secondhand or something and get back to y'all ;D

In my personal opinion, ToTT and DS Cute were the worst in the series.

TOTT had an AWFUL save system. It was a terrible idea. Some dishes were hard to make because some ingredients would rot before you could get all the things you need to actually make the dish. In addition, the villagers weren't as interesting.

DS Cute lacked character creativity excepting Witch Princess and raising FP was more difficult than it should have been.

Except she wasn't l m f a o

DS was by far the worst because unpopular opinion I actually like being able to play games without the possibility of the game shitting itself and freezing and/or deleting all my save data

plus everyone was fugly

To those that say DS is glitchy, I think you should see if you can track down a newer copy of the game. And I mean a newer version. Natsume released newer versions with less glitches. My boyfriend loves DS, but the glitches bothered him quite a bit. I found out about the newer versions, and got it for him.

Not to say that any of you still can't like it, because hey that happens. Not everyone is going to like every game in a series! But if glitches is the problem, see if you can find a less glitchy version, and see what you think after that.

As for me, out of any I played... IoH and GrB.

I actually liked the characters in IoH and had no problem with the changes in farming. I had two problems though. First was the controls. I think SI made the controls much better, I couldn't stand using the stylis for everything. The second was the characters moving out if you didn't talk to people, or actually shipping certain items. I shouldn't have to be one to keep people staying in the village.

GrB annoyed me really. I wanted to like it, but I couldn't get into it. The Bazaars kinda bothered me and I wish I could have used a shipping bin instead. My biggest complaint is the marriage system though. In this game, I didn't see the point of the rivals, since even if you see all the scenes with a certain couple, it doesn't matter. You can still swoop in and take the guy/girl anyway. Even if they never married in game, they could have at least locked you out from marrying that specific person. While I haven't played ToTT or ANB yet, I can say that at the very least, they don't have rivals, so that doesn't bother me like GrB does. :P

I played DS Cute way more than HM:DS, and they took out enough game killing glitches that I never even encountered anything. Without the risk of losing my game it was just fine. And even with the risk, using the second save slot as a backup in HM:DS took care of the problem, although it was annoying to occasionally repeat days.

That aside:

Since when was Pokemon movie based? Did they make games of the movies?

AWL because it was just boring as hell.

They left out most of the elements that make other HM games fun.

Like there weren't any goddamn festivals... well ok, there was, but all they consisted of was a few people sitting around watching a hippie strum a guitar. What the hell?

There was no real goal in the game.. no plot or story whatsoever... no unlockable stuff... nothing, nada, zip. There was no POINT to anything.

Forget Me Not valley was a depressing place that felt so empty and under-populated. The characters that did live there were very dry and not memorable in the least.

Oh and you could only marry three different women, all of whom were terrible. Gah.
