Nooooooo! Now I won't know which fishy said what!
Tides had a few too many skills. Jumping, sure, but double jumping and attacking while jumping? Plus one for every type of monster you can fight? Every type of weapon and element was already plenty.
Frontier's dungeons definitely had a steep level climb to them, but I thought that was nice. The dungeons were huge and sprawling and you got to really explore them while preparing yourself to go deeper. Tides still had big dungeons, but you didn't have to work as hard and the only impression they really left on me was the color.
And I didn't mind the runey system. It was like a minor nuisance to take the time every now and then to correct a spot that was getting off balance. Frontier has been on of my favorites so far. The only reason it's not no contest for me is because I can't play it in private.

I actually enjoyed frontier's level of difficulty. It invited you to spend more times in each dungeon, without making you labor within them for eternity. I usually beat games like rune factory fairly quickly, but frontier was the only one that forced me to play slower, and I actually really enjoyed that. If you didn't want to grind, stocking up on health potions did the trick to get you through any boss battle. Some of the hand helds were a little too easy to run through in my opinion. Runeys..................let's just say that I'm glad they are dead and gone.....gone for all of eternity

let's compare teh grindy factor between Frontier and Tides xD
disclaimer: this is based on my experience and opinion only
Money
Frontier: get a few areas into prosperity, plant seeds, leave it for monster to water and harvest
Tides: keep pressing X for Hot Milk and Handknit Scarves
Weapon
Frontier: upgrade sickle
Tides: find materials for new weapons
Crafting
Frontier: guaranteed level up everytime making something hard
Tides: keep pressing X with patience
Fishing
Frontier: wait for the fish to bite then press X
Tides: listen to the music, wait for the fish to bite then press X (Sonja: Sooometiiiimes they just don't biite~

)
Dungeon
Frontier: varied layout with puzzles
Tides: it looks the same everywhere + destroy portals to move forward
Woods
ok Frontier is grindier without a doubt but remember if you do carpentry in Tides you have to pick the oaks up one by one
Conclusion!
Each game has its strong and weak points but I like Frontier a bit more.

^ This. I loved RFF's dungeons, even if they could be crazy difficult without a guide and the level jump was pretty steep at times. And I was stuck in the Lava Ruins for a really long time, mostly because I hadn't grinded enough for better equips
Tides... was all right. I liked the idea, I liked the characters, even the farming was pretty cool, and I liked some of the dungeons, even though it felt very hack and slash, at least the bosses were intriguing and fun. I had so much fun spearing the machine gun crab XD But yea, it's also pretty grindy, but just... in a different way? Like it was super easy to get money in that game, and the only reason to grind was to do one thing (like fishie said: hot milk and scarves) to get the level up. In Frontier they actually kind of encouraged you to make various equips to level up and explore your options. Also grinding pharmacy in Frontier was not difficult at all once you got to lvl 20 and could make the actually helpful health potions

Grinding pharmacy in Tides? Why would you need to do that? XD

damn this has turned basically into ToD vs RFF and i don't think the op wanted that its kind of off topic don't you think since that wasnt the original topic intended
i personally find RFF fun but way too grindy all the time and im not comparing it to ToD

It was the only Rune Factory game that wasn't piss easy, so I enjoyed it. It rewarded good movement, timing, and smart playing. I didn't have to grind that much at all.

Yeah I don't remember Frontier being grindy, nor the Runey system being hard. I thought the difficulty level was great because even though I cheated (kinda) using sickles as my choice weapons, it wasn't stupidly easy. I leveled up my skills very quickly because I would take risks making high-level items, which was more about reflexes than random chance. Also, on the plus side, it took time to raise friendships, and raising LP had unique requirements. The "I just met you yesterday why do you have 10LP" kind of feeling I had in RF3, for example, made me feel weird. In RFF, it felt like an achievement when an LP gauge filled up (save for Selphy, who was too easy to woo

)
Some things I wish were harder, actually. Like if it had a hard mode to unlock. But overall it's a really enjoyable timesink where patience and discretion over your actions pays off.
Maybe just because it's harder compared to other RF games, and a lot of RF players are unfamiliar with RPGs...? idk.

Is Frontier hard? I guess it is, but the other thing about Frontier is it gets very drawn out at time
like
or
The LP thing is just right, imo. Giving someone their favorite item once every day and they get to 10LP in a month.

Frontier was alright, in my opinion.
The fact it wasn't easy to just run though was good.

Frontier was Good but to me it seems that i could never get to a high enough level i still had trouble with the ducks and all and the golems just slaughtered me every time i moved so i liked how ToD was toned down in the difficulty department
