I got it yesterday, but I don't know when I'm going to play it because huge backlog.

And I'm trying to decide for the first playthrough whether to align myself with Killer Queen, or « Harvest Goddess » Save the Queen? it would be nice to be dynamite with a laserbeam...

it's my first 'true' SMT game but I will try normal mode and see if I want to go up or down in difficulty from there.

Are you using the level DLC? I've spent like 6 hours on it and I'm still really low level (and have been grinding for demon's and such)

I absolutely refuse to play on easy. Refuuuuuse. I'm loving the game though! Hard as hell, but rewards good strategy as long as a demon doesn't pre-emptively strike you, then you're screwed

I freaking love Burrough's. She's my waifu

Guilty. I honestly only bought it for Oread but then I decided to run around and see what all the buzz was about getting extra exp or whatever.

Turns out the getting a Small Grimore from the enemies lets you level up if you get 6 of them and a Heavy Grimore lets you automatically level up. If you can kill the enemies before they run away your almost Guaranteed to get a Heavy Grimore.

So I abused the system for awhile because I was getting sick of dying. No shame, and it really does help, especially with fusing because i'm not held down by my level anymore. I probably won't use it again though, level 50 should keep me trucking for awhile.

Also, Burroughs is awesome, but she gives me a freaking heart attack when i'm in a dungeon and she shouts out "5 MORE TO GO!" or something. It just seems really loud even though the rest of the voices are normal volume.

I want this game so badly, I actually preordered it on amazon but some issues happened with my order and I had to cancel it.
I'm so jealous of you guys right now!
Luckily I can still get preorder benefits if I make my order again.
I'm just a bit worried because this is the first time I order anything, so I wonder if it's okay to put my adress in my native language (spanish) or if it has to be english.

Got my copy from a toy store near the office where I work. It's more expensive from my usual gamestore's price but it was worth it. At least I secure a copy of it since some of us have problem securing a copy of their own. Time to save, there's still RF4 to buy. C:

Hmm... That exp DLC looks interesting because usually I don't have much time for grinding in the normal way.

Had to stop at Shibuya for the moment. Loving it so far, the game really opens up when you get to Tokyo.

And I learned that I'm leaning towards Law right now. I wonder if I'll stick on that path...

Man, I'm sad that the guide only covers 40% of the game. There have been several times yesterday where I had no idea where I was going and was wandering aimlessly on the map for several minutes because the game never gave me any indication of where to go next. >_>

So... I am semi-interested in this game and would really love everyone elses input.

Kotaku had a chart that made me question whether I should get this game or not.

So so stories? Bland characters? Worst map ever?
What are your thoughts? Is it as bad as it sounds or should I give it a go because you believe the above is exaggerated.

I love RPGs and am currently stuck with my 3DS because everything else I touch breaks. I am interested in this but I was taken back when I read Kotaku's review.

Map isn't exaggerating, it's pretty terrible at telling you where to go. But I disagree with the other two. They're not the most expressive characters in the world, but I like them a lot. As for the story, it's hard to say. I'll be able to say more once I beat it.

But the opinion on the story seems to be divided with reviewers. Some reviews say it's good, others say it's bad. I think it's always good to read more than 1 review if you're on the fence with a purchase.

Yeah, I have been reading a few but this review stands out the most. I really like to feel involved with the characters in whatever game I am playing. I guess I could give it a try, if I see it in stores I'll buy it. I suppose the only way to know if I really like a story is to try it for myself.
Thanks Beedle. I hope the map isn't toooo bad~

That review from Kotaku was really, really bad. He talked more about Burrough's than he did anything anything else :/

First and foremost SMT:IV is a dungeon crawler. You are going to spend the majority of your time in the many dungeons grinding. The story and characters so far are decent, but like Beedle said, can't really tell without finishing it.

The game doesn't hold your hand. One my very first demon negotiation (2nd fight in the game) my whole entire party got instant KO'ed in one turn. You're going to die extremely often, even on easy.. it's not an easy game, but when you overcome fights it's really rewarding imo. You can save anywhere, which really helps.

I posted a video a few pages back that has the first intro hour to the game.. it's really good for showing you what exactly you'd be expecting if you played it. Definitely look up some more reviews on it if you're interested!

I don't think the Kotaku review was very good. "Burroughs, Burroughs, Burroughs!" but the other characters aren't even that bad, I like them quite a bit. The story's fairly interesting though kind of weird and at times, very dark.

The game's pretty difficult and if you're not careful things, things go down the drain quickly. It's less focused on characters so if you want something character driven it's not that great an idea. Rope's right on the point about dungeon crawling. You'll be spending a lot of time running around grinding, doing quests, etc. rather than interacting with characters.
