Having difficulty understanding the game?
Yes, I know this sounds stupid. But it's true. For my entire HM experience, I've been playing MFoMT, FoMT, and once or twice, AWL. So when I was in gamestop, I saw, oh look! the next gen up from MFoMT, HM6. I tried it out, and...woah. Totally different graphics, totally different controls, and a story-line I could JUST not follow. Plus, (even with years of playing various DS games) the controls were confusing, with all of the useful combos so you never had to use the stupid menu. Can someone help me with this? Urgh. I swear, I'm smart!

Well the plot of the game is to save the Harvest Goddess by rescuing Harvest Sprites. You rescue Harvest Sprites by completing certain tasks such as shipping some amount of items, catching a certain amount of fish, etc. If you want to know exactly how to unlock each Harvest Sprites you can check here:

As for the controls I'm not really sure how to help you ^^;. All I can say is that you'll probably get adjusted to them eventually if you keep playing.

...There's a storyline?
But yeah, I can understand how it would be a bit jarring after playing other HMs.
One thing I found confusing with the controls was...I hope I'm remembering this correctly...when you tap an item in your inventory, sometimes it's highlighted lightly, and sometimes it's highlighted...darkly. Did that make any sense?
I thought it had something to do with how hard you tapped it. Did not mean for that to sound dirty...
But, if you tap a stack of items twice, it takes out one of them and puts it in the nearest available space. If most of the spaces in your inventory are full and the one taken out gets put at the bottom of your inventory menu, it can be really weird...when that first happened, I was like, "I could've sworn I had one more of those..."

It's been so long since I played, so it's hard for me to help with anything. But it's TOTALLY worth your money... That is, as soon as it starts playing for you instead of against you. Ha.
You'll get used to it. Good luck.
Quigley- the highlighted bits drove me crazy for so long. That was « Puppy Doodoo ».

HMDS is really hit or miss with some people. It took me a while to enjoy personally, but that was because of the difficulty compared to past HM games.
My advice is to check out both the Ushi guide that was linked above and Lily's Harvest Sprite Guide here

Lily's guide is what really helped me get back into the game and enjoy it. Don't let awkward controls stop you from enjoying the game, for me the farming and rescuing sprites is more fun for me than interactions, so it all depends on what you want to get out of the game. It's difficult when you first pick it up but it becomes easier and more comfortable to play after a while.
