The difference between IOH and SI is in IOH you start with nothing and you have to unlock every character and some of them move away if you don't talk to them and there are a lot of people to unlock with SI most of the characters are already on the island plus two new characters lily and will and no one ever move away the only tip I have is to have fun

If you haven't already consulted everything on Fogu's sites for SI, I recommend doing that first.I just started playing SI anything I need to know about this game […]
Other than that, there are some very detailed and helpful guides, especially that one Mining guide that also features other useful tips, you can find on this forum by using the search function.
Personal tips that I can give you off the top of my head are:
1. Don't raise Link Island first. If you're at the beginning of the game (and hopefully don't use cheats) this island is pretty much useless even though it might seem tempting to raise it because it only requires 3 Sunstones.
2. Use the Harvest Sprites for shopping discounts. I know some people don't use them at all but they're really helpful in my opinion. I've saved quite some money that I used for other things.
3. Buy a fishing rod as soon as you can afford it and fish at festivals where the time is stopped and you can fish to your heart's content. Bring some indigo herbs for filling up your stamina. (Actually, I don't recommend shipping those herbs – I could have done so much more if I just saved and ate them whenever I needed instead of selling them.)
4. If you want to fill up your stamina but don't have any indigo herbs anymore, go to the Diner or Cafe and drink water; it costs nothing but it takes some time before your stamina is full.
5. And lastly, be patient and plant, plant, plant. It takes some in-game time before you have sufficient money to buy the things you want.

Also, I suggest to forage as much as possible, dont forget the seaweed on the beach! Try to raise Mushroom Island or Volcano Island first as my suggestion. The extra income from ores or mushrooms will help you in the long run. Other than that, fish, plant, have animals, and plant some more! Hope this helps
