I hate a game that actually dictates to you when you have to do something. The pace in RF4 work fine. Course now I find out that Hometown Story is coming out on the 22nd (I've already paid for it) so I'll be in a dilemma soon.

I'd like to see a new feature, but at the same time don't want something really spoiled.

Yeah hometown story has put me in a bit of a tight spot too, we were planning to launch the kickstarter soon, but I fear with RF4 and Hometown story's recent releases our backers will be a bit skint... I'm now thinking early november, or 15th oct before hometown story... as a potential customer what would you prefer?

as for spoilers, were setting up our releases so you learn more about hte game and its features, but without spoilers ;)

Personally I think you guys shouldn't rush it too much, make sure you're all happy with the final product rather than throw it out there as soon as you can. I can see your dilemma as this is quite a month for gaming, Rune Factory 4, Pokemon X and Y, and Hometown Story.

October 15th and early November I think are both good dates, I'll just wait and see how it works out for everyone else though. :)
I'm excited and I'm more than willing to give this game a go and support it. Also as for the poll I'd like to see a new feature.

Hey, I'm already Rune-Factorying, Harvest Mooning, and soon to be Hometown Story-ing here! Can't I get a little break?! Lol

I wouldn't rush the game either. I'd rather wait. And while I'm not at all patient, I have enough to keep me busy. I love the idea of a similar game to Harvest Moon, but I wouldn't want it to be rushed, and as a result, a poorly made game.

What will this be released on again (3DS/PSP/etc.)? I don't think I've heard a definite answer, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Early November might be better. A lot of similar games getting released in October. Course you would need to factor in your budget and how much you've finished already. Still looking forward to seeing more though.

Yeah, this is pretty much my opinion on the matter too.
There are just too many long-play games that are being/have been released this month in Wild Season's target audience.
So starting the Kickstarter too soon could lead it to being overshadowed, especially with RF out and Pokémon about to be released.

But like LeBurns said, you have to factor in you budget.

Oh this looks great. Jumping on board now after reading through the thread to say that a KickStart in October would not be your best bet. The response, due to the sheer amount of games coming in this month, would not be as encompassing as in perhaps a less busy month.

Regardless, I'd love to see a farming game that raises the game quality bar on mobile devices. I'd be happy to chip in with any possible way. I really love that waiter's design, and his personality's even better. I would definitely romance a fed-up waiter; it sounds interesting enough without him having a great design on top of it.

Thanks for coming to the forum with this - it's a great way to speak and get feedback from people of your target audience without announcing it to the entire community.

Hi Guys!

Thanks for the feedback, yeah that's what I suspected! Fortunately I've been able to stretch our budget till end november, so we'll launch the kickstarter then :). In the meantime any update on what update you guys want? ;)

Still like to see what some of the new features are. These games all have farming, ranching, home building, befriending, marriage, etc. Would like to see what you have that's outside the box.

Hi Everyone! Sorry for the late response! I was busy travelling (and writing) the last month, as well as investigating all the new titles that came out for ideas (Pokemon, RF, Hometown Story, and more), and boy have they inspired ideas!

With regards to your question about the features, and as to what is outside the box, I'm not very sure how to answer that...as Solid Snake is rather using it to sneak around and save the world and whatnot.

Seriously though, when I conceptualized the game, I wanted to hold on to that classic Harvest Moon "feeling" and experience, but I also wanted something..."more", so I'll do my best to describe that :).

In actuality its probably a lot of little things that we're doing, that as a whole ammount to something awesome, so I'll start.

Story - I would say one of the keystones of the game would be the stories we are trying to tell. As mentioned earlier, we are going for a slighly darker and more mature theme. Aside from the town's dark secret, the characters themselves have individual conflicts that they need to overcome. These can be minor problems such as heartbreak, to overcoming a drinking or addiction problem (not substance abuse! We'd probably have to get rated M for that and we're trying to avoid it >.< (at least at this stage).

Activities - We're trying to introduce more activities, that are impacted by your decisions. Things beyond just the usual produce fairs. We want to emulate something akin to Golden Saucer from FFVII. Particularly the chocobo functionality. We hope to be able to do something similar with the dogs and horses, allowing you to become a master breeder, if that is your fancy. It does not end there. We are playing around with a few other things you can do on the side as your "focus" beyond farming and raising animals for crop

Automation & Machinery - This could be tricky, but we want to introduce easier farming thru machinery

Cellphone - As GTA recenlty introduced, the cellphone can be an excellent way to communicate with NPC's. However what you can do with your phone will change over time, as how the town's cellphone network and its features evolve, will depend on your interactions with the towns folk

Mayoral Elections! Become Mayor - This is something we really really really really want! Although I really dont know if it will make it to the final game (funding dependent), but we're still deciding on the mechanics for this, and how it will affect the town (it may be a DLC)

Crowdsourced beauty competitions - Inspired by pokemon. But instead of haivng your farm animals rated by the system, we will let people decide!

crop trading - with region based crop availability (based on your region you will have different crop selections available to you, encouraging trade)

dating - As mentioned previously we wanted to go overboard with a relationship and dating simulator. We've made a relatively large world with lots of options to take your desired partner on dates as you try to romance him/her, and even locations to propose!

After Marriage life - We also want to make your wife (and kid/s) more involved in life beyond marriage. Depending on who you choose, your partner might be fiercely independent, bossy, or needy. This will affect your post marital relations as we want your partner to do more than sit at home with your kid.

Quite honestly this is just the tip of the iceberg of what we WANT to do. We have lots more planned, but as mentioned previously how far we can go will depend greatly on funding, although we have our fingers majorly crossed that we'll get enough to do everything (and we're praying we hit several hundred thousand dollars at least so we can really, not just make the best game we can, but also have enough to keep us in business beyond that making more awesome games, as we are just as excited for our next IP too :D, but one thing at a time ^^ )

We intend to hopefully launch our kickstarter this friday (so please set some money aside for us :D), and next week we'll do an AMA on Reddit. So please have your questions ready! :D, although for you guys, I want to preview the trailer here before we send it out to the world, and you guys will get first crack at our proof of concept demo before we decide to reveal it to trhe world, just because you guys have been so awesome!

It all sounds very interesting. I am a bit worried about how a game with that many features is going to work on a phone though. I know that some games with a lot of content take a very long time to load on phones and have a lot of issues with delay. Though if I love the content of the game I'll play it regardless and it sounds like I will.

The features look nice! Although with all the features and technology involved, I wouldn't put this on a phone either.

Well we are developing the game for multiple platforms, so one wont be limited to just having the game on your phone, so you can pick the platform of your choice (assuming we hit the nescessary stretch goals)

Ideally we want the game to be available on:

Android, IOS, PS VITA, PS3/4, Xbox One, Steam and if possible 3DS.

With regards to mobile performance issues, once again, we are enheartened by games such as The Room, or Baldurs Gate which are able to comfortably run on devices less powerful than an Iphone 5. This is also why we finally decided on opting for a 2D art style as oposed to a 3D art style, to help reduce the processing workload in exchange for more room to play with computationally.

Based on what we have seen other developers put out on mobile devices using Unity we are confident the game will run smoothly on at list mid to high tier devices

Well, I've been busy playing Pokemon Y (son has X), Hometown Story and of course Rune Factory 4.

I like a lot of the new features in Pokemon. Rune Factory 4 is just fantastic. Loving it. Hometown Story was a great idea, but really fell flat in execution.

There are several great ideas from all of these games however that could be put to good use in a new game.

My fear is maybe too much to do, not enough time to have fun and socialize. If you are going to farm and do it right, it's going to take a large portion of your time. If you are going to breed and train animals, it's going to take a large portion of your time. If you are going to be mayor, it is going to take a large portion of your time. I would hate to try to manage my time in a game where I was trying to do all of these things. It just wouldn't be fun anymore. The game would need to allow you to focus on just one 'main' time consumer. Maybe let you switch them around, like start off as a farmer, start getting into breeding, later sell it all and be mayor ... or if you really liked farming just stay at that and not have to do the others at all.

I do have real issues with what I call 'required' multi-player. I still get steamed about not being able to marry a certain female in Rune Factory 1 because I couldn't find someone else playing the game that I could trade a fish to 80 time. I didn't even really want to marry the girl. It was just the fact that I paid for the FULL game and parts of it were excluded from me because of a multi-player requirement. Course I know others LOVE multi-player and there's nothing wrong with that, I just don't like it being requirement for something. I actually liked the little bit of MP that HM:ANB had, where we just randomly show up in some field, exchange gifts and then harvest from each others animals.

Hi LeBurns! Great to hear from you again! Like yourself I too have been playing these games, hunting for inspiration and Ideas!

You raise some really good points! and these are all things that we have considered whilst planning out the features.

One of the things I really liked about some of the older HM games, was the ability to hire the elfs/gnomes to help you out on the farm. Whilst we wont have elf/gnomes in our game, there will be options as time goes on to help you automate your farm. We're trying to set it up so you can control the level of atomization you can do on your farm, based on how much time you want to spend pursuing other avenues. In addition to that we're also bringing in the other things to do as mid or late game features, to give you the chance to focus on your farm, establish it, and then based on your preferences, branch out.

With regards to becoming mayor, as we mapped this out, we decided to go against it. Instead there is going to be a town council, which you can be a part of, and you work with the Mayor to help shape the town. This allows you to take part in town politics, without becoming a full-time affair.

Although it sounds like we are trying to do a lot, we are extremely conscious of our limitations (and the platforms), and we are trimming this down where we need to (without impacting game-play or making it feel gimicky), and bolstering where we need to. You would be surprised, how much a little effort in dialogue or context came make something that was inserted "for the sake of" makes it feel a little bit more "at home"

In other news! We're almost done with the pre-requisites for our Kickstarter! We'll be trying to publish a few more sneak peeks over the next few days, before we announce the launch of the kickstarter sometime next week!

Town council. I like that.

I checked the site and like what you've got so far. I couldn't help but notice that the PC's image was also in one of the cut scenes (him driving the car). Does this mean that there is no customization of the PC? I know Rune Factory is like this and it's not a real problem, just wondering since games like HM, HS and even FE:A have added PC customization now. I like it, but if there are cut scenes that are not game-engine rendered I can understand why you can't do it.

Until this game gets on the 3DS I guess I could borrow my wife's iPad mini to play. Not like she ever uses it anyway.
