I have just had the terraced fields opened on my farm. Am I supposed to put the usual fields on the terraces?

I cleared away some trees and tried to do this but there does not seem to be enough space.

Just move them around. You should be able to fit three on each ledge, and then 2 on either side of the geyser. So, 11 total. Can be any field

Just make sure that all trees on the terrace are chopped down.
The place of the fields is a bit tricky because they have not much variable place there so you need to nearly place them perfectly.

It took me a while too (especially as some seedling were mean to me as they were in the way and I could not chop them down....) but its nice not to water them manually Saves a bit time and stamina

Also, terraced fields naturally raise the Star Rank of your Crops over time, and the higher up your Fields are, the more of a raise they'll get from using Fertilizer.

That is to say, if normally, you'd use 10 Fertilizer to raise it from one star to two, it would only take, maybe, 7 or 8 to do the same on a terraced field.

It's not much of a bonus, but it becomes visible, even on the lowest fields, after around…8 to 10 days or so, which is handy.
