... If you set the language on your Nintendo DS to English and buy the Japanese version of this game, would it still play in English? This seems like such a dumb question and I feel ridiculous asking it, but Im confused about it. I'd like to play a harvest moon game in Japanese, namely the new one being released around a year from now in Japan.

If you get the Japanese version of the new HM game you will have to play it in Japanese because there is no way to change it. Also keep in mind that 3DS games region locked so if you got the Japanese version of the game you'd need a Japanese 3DS in order to play it.

No, setting the language to English will make the system (that means your DS) uses English as the command language (remove your DS game cart and turn on the DS after you set the language to Japanese and you'll see what I mean). It does not affect the game in any way. It will play in Japanese regardless which language you use in your DS.

By the new HM game, you mean CtaNW? If that's the case, what Googa said is correct. You need a Japanese 3DS to play Japanese games due to region lock.

I have an english 3ds but because I live in the UK, I had Cute imported from the US. Is that likely to cause any problems? It hasn't so far.

As far as I know, the 3DS doesn't region lock DS games, just 3DS ones, so Cute won't cause any problems on a UK 3DS
