So I'm fairly new to this game and I haven't really found a use for my cart. What do you typically use it for?

Its portable storage, you put items in it so you don't have to go all the way back to your house, you can also take items out.

Some horse carts can make your items fresher longer

I use the cart for carrying items around that I cant put in rucksack, keeping items fresh (I want to befriend Dirk so I get the Cream croquette in Howard's during winter and keep it fresh!)

Make sure to store your items with freshness in your horse cart so they don't decay as quickly. Your rucksack doesn't keep them fresh.
