animals, festivals, dying

I absolutely love DS / Cute but I wonder about animals.

First a little rant:
Spoiler:
they technically die after 7/6/5 years. But sometimes they die sooner, which is fine- you never really know when your animal may die, no one knows when they die, either. Perfectly logical. Reload trick is fine for cheating life and death in this game although if I do have a gripe with the game is that I really don;t understand how can villagers be angry at the MC for the death of an animal of old age. This is one of thise quirk that they should have thought through better before introducing animal life span into any HM game and the one thig they DID do right in later games was to correct this. Oh well. I am guessing they just weren't able to programme the game to differentiate between :"old age" and "sickness" so the game sees both as the same thing. This must be a tricky thing to code.
/End of Rant

-is it ever possible to level them to full hearts before they die? That is do they reach full hearts in their life span? How much of it would be thanks to touch glove?

-do they need 8-10 hearts to start winning festivals?

The more hearts the animal has, the better it's likely to do in festivals. As for the dying thing, it's probably because the reaction of the villagers is coded for losing fp regardless of the cause.

I believe if you breed the animal with a full 10 hearts, the baby should have half of whatever the parent has, so it should start off with 5 hearts if you were able to get it to 10 hearts, but that could be from the later games that I'm thinking of...

Thank you both for your replies.

-In later games only an animal with a set number of hearts could win (min 8 hearts) that's why I was wondering if any animal stands a chance of winning, regardless of the number of hearts. Although now that I think about it I think in ToTT an animal with as few as 5 hearts stood some minimal chance as well, I think it was 10 or 20%.

-Billy, it would be lovely if it could be so. It's very useful. But I think I read somewhere that it's born with two hearts if born on the ranch? I read it on some other forum looking for answers to my burning doubts lol. Maybe the poster did not specify how many hearts his animal had when he/she bred it.

It has been a while since I played Hmds, so I'm just trying to remember from my fun experiences in playing...if you you have any more questions, ask away!
