ANB was the first handheld one I really played. The rest I played were console ones and I believe Animal Lifespans only were in A Wonderful Life (and the ones thereafter) which I stopped rather early when I found out about how you'd die at the end too.

I played over 20 years of 64 so I know that didn't have them.

Didn't play that either--HM64 was my first HM game XD

Since HM64 was my first, all the character changes in the Mineral Town games was really odd to me so I never played any of them.

FoMT was my first, so I rembered my first chicken dying. I´ve played quite a long time, because I wanted to marry the Goddess and you have to be at least in year 5 for this.

AWL didn't have life spans. Animals in that game die from sickness and lack of food only.

Not to sound insulting or anything, but you must have skipped getting silkworms in ToT/AP since they have the shortest lifespans of all animals.

Even then, the horse in AWL was indestructible. No matter what you could do to it, it didn't get sick and die. Really the only animal I can believe a person would purposely kill in that game would be the goat because you weren't able to sell it. Even then, I believe you were able to sell it in Another Wonderful Life. I never killed the goat though. The thought horrified me as a child.

Speaking of, does the horse even have a lifespan in Connect (or is this a question better suited for the spoiler thread)? Also, I kind of miss the goats. They were so cute... And now that I think about it, the last time we had goats was in AP. What happened to the goats?

You can always save the night before you go to bed, wake up and if an animal dies, reload and try to avert their death. Or you can sell them when you figure their time is about up. There is also being lucky and having the animal live an extra year for whatever reason. The console versions of Harvest Moon really didn't have animal lifespans until Magical Melody now that I think about it. And from then on, I think they always had the lifespans. But for the most part, the handhelds always had them. (Although I'm not too sure about the Gameboy or Gameboy Color ones.) Still though, why stop playing because an animal died? I'm not trying to sound mean or anything (I think they need to make them longer personally), but it's been like that for a while in Harvest Moon. I mean, I can understand not playing AWL because the player character dies, but there's always the option of playing until the final Winter and then just not finishing the month.

All my animals were fine and I swear I got an old age cutscene--since I only bother with animals (I cover my farm lands in fodder), I never forget to feed them (and I always have medicine on hand incase they get sick). There is a chance I could be thinking of a different game--maybe it was ToT/AP with the first ones I had then? Or heard.

If it was that and mine did pass away, it wouldn't suprise me if I blocked it out.

Anonymous Night Owl - I'm thinking about that with this game, but the problem with selling is the same issue I have with them passing away in the first place--I don't want to lose them. I like the idea of having these animals with me forever on my farm.

Regardless, I'd really appreciate if we could stop the debate. I'm having enough issues right now with personal stuff that has to do with similar and it's just really highlighting how much I hate that this kind of stuff is in the game (and I'm sure one other thing will be even worse for me now). Point is it wasn't in many of the games I played and then it suddenly was and it just sucks and I loved the idea of having a farm forever with all the animals and things that made it that way.

And just as an end (And I honestly mean this--I'm sorry if this comes out snooty, not a good day as I mentioned above...) Good for you that it doesn't bother you. But let me be allowed to be bothered with it. Honestly, even if EVERY HM game had this feature, it would upset me. I don't even know if I would've gotten this far if I had to deal with it every game as my love for HM came from how long I played HM64--it was the first game my mom and I played together.

Jenemi- I apologize if I upset you. That was not my intention at all. I was just curious as to why it made you upset. Perhaps I worded things a bit incorrectly, so I'll be careful of that in the future. And I can see how you would be in for a bad surprise if your first game was HM64 and the played a very different HM game after that. Anyways, again, I'm sorry if I upset you by making you dwell on a feature you don't care for. Also I believe you are thinking of a different game. AWL had a pasture for your animals that grew fodder naturally (or through the use of fertilizer depending on which version you were playing). The side fields were for your crops.

Anyways, does anyone else wish they used a different cow design? I mean, the toupee cows have their own sort of charm, but... It's kind of odd looking.

Iunno, I enjoyed imagining Neil giggling like a schoolgirl while putting the toupees on them

Buuuut since this game has no Neil, I guess I'd like a cuter design as well. I recently replayed that BtN for PSP thingy (Boy and Girl?) and the cows there made me squee, I mean they freaking smile at you what

Thank you good person for the glorious mental image that you have given me.

The old bubble cows were plenty cute too. I never played BtN or the PSP remake, but that sounds absolutely adorable. I kind of wish things like that made a comeback. Sure the alpacas have their little happy dance and whatnot, but I do kind of miss the animal's reaction to affection.

That is too weird, I just signed in so I can ask if the bubble cows made a return. Has anyone gotten to the cow festival yet to see if you can get the bubble cows?

I won the cow festival, but I never got the option to get a bubble cow. But that doesn't mean it isn't possible to acquire one some other way. I still haven't unlocked all of the other farm animals yet.

Still no update on the game home page I figure the game guide site would be up now to a point since the game been out for a while now. I'm still wondering when eshop is going to upload it? I still want to play it but I can't afford to order it online and have it ship it to me right now I'm still recovering from GDC 2014
