Even then, the horse in AWL was indestructible. No matter what you could do to it, it didn't get sick and die. Really the only animal I can believe a person would purposely kill in that game would be the goat because you weren't able to sell it. Even then, I believe you were able to sell it in Another Wonderful Life.
I never killed the goat though. The thought horrified me as a child.
Speaking of, does the horse even have a lifespan in Connect (or is this a question better suited for the spoiler thread)? Also, I kind of miss the goats. They were so cute... And now that I think about it, the last time we had goats was in AP. What happened to the goats?
The rest I played were console ones and I believe Animal Lifespans only were in A Wonderful Life (and the ones thereafter) which I stopped rather early when I found out about how you'd die at the end too.
You can always save the night before you go to bed, wake up and if an animal dies, reload and try to avert their death. Or you can sell them when you figure their time is about up. There is also being lucky and having the animal live an extra year for whatever reason. The console versions of Harvest Moon really didn't have animal lifespans until Magical Melody now that I think about it. And from then on, I think they always had the lifespans. But for the most part, the handhelds always had them. (Although I'm not too sure about the Gameboy or Gameboy Color ones.) Still though, why stop playing because an animal died? I'm not trying to sound mean or anything (I think they need to make them longer personally), but it's been like that for a while in Harvest Moon. I mean, I can understand not playing AWL because the player character dies, but there's always the option of playing until the final Winter and then just not finishing the month.
