it's kind of frustrating having to go all the way home and sleep just to save the game. is there any way I could save without going to bed?

You can only save by ending the day. But you can sleep in the Town Halls by signing a guest sheet on the counter. So if you don't want to go all the way home try checking the Town Hall of whichever town you're in.

The guest book still ends the day. I wish the saving system in ToTT will be the same as FoMT or DS.
