Whaaa? According to http://fogu.com/hm10/your_farms/chickens.php they have a maximum lifespan of 6 years, but it's only Summer of year 3 and Jessica just came and told me my chicken had passed away from old age.

I had just barely finished increasing its productivity to 5 :( I had planned to breed it and get a replacement chick as it got close to the end of its lifespan, but it was barely 3 years old!

Sniff ... my poor chicken. :( What gives with the half life?

Also, just had the thought that my Silkie, who I purchased not long after, is probably in danger of dying as well. Since I am still Konohana working on expansions before I move to Bluebell, I only have room for 2 chickens. Should I get a replacement regular chicken for the lost one, or breed my Silkie before she too dies before her time?

Downside would be only black eggs, no normal eggs.

Ah, you can edit your post y'know.... Just to let you know.... :lol:

But sometimes it comes down to luck. Or chance more often. But there's always more eggs in the barn, don't worry. :D If you don't like it just reset to the morning again and you'll probably find that the little hen is still in the land if the living, good way to prolong life.

It really depends on luck, really.
When my first chicken in this game, I was like "Oh my gosh! Why do you must die so soon!?"
I sulked about 3 days, and I didn't touch my game for 2 weeks since then.
I've tried to reload, but it didn't work --" So I just moved on and buy a new chicken, with the very same name ;_;
I just love that chicken really much ;w;

What would you all do - breed the Silkie in case it's about to die too, or buy a new regular chicken?

Was that chicken a starter animal from Bluebell? They have shorter lives than normal animals (hence, why bother leveling them up? X_x)

Or, the only thing I can think of, was your chicken sick or stressed? Animals can get stressed, which makes them sick, which can kill them. I've never had a sick animal, so I'm not sure how it tells you they're sick.

No, I purchased it from Jessica and raised it from a chick. It wasn't sick or stressed, I meticulously check all their stats every day (also because I am levelling them) and the cutscene with Jessica said it had died of old age, that it had lived a good life, etc etc.

I had bought it in year 1 so I'm pretty annoyed that it only lived two years. I spent so many treats levelling it up too :(
