Tool upgrade request help?

Question #1:
If I can't give Sheng his 2.5+ star Amethyst, will he keep reposting the request every season until I get it, or am I totally screwed on upgrading this tool (watering can) if I miss out this time?

Question #2:
I painstakingly smashed my collection of Ore stones, reloaded when I didn't get the I wanted, repeat until I am cross-eyed, and then finally got an Amethyst! Yay! Then when I handed it in, I realized it's only a 1.5 star In fact, all my ore stone results are 1.5 star, so I assume the only way I can get a 2.5+ is through the mine expansions?

Question #3:
If that's the case, do I have to upgrade my house as well to be considered 100% farm expanded? I don't want to trigger the Child event until I have finished expanding Konohana and am ready to move to Bluebell. (I only have the fish pond and the 4th rice paddy left to go, soooo close!)

#1. I don't think you're totally screwed, but you might have to wait a little while before Sheng will post about the upgrade again (or you might not, I'm not too sure). I do know that this probably won't be the last time you'll see this request on the message board.

#2. You don't have to expand the mine for a higher star rank. Instead, the star rank of mined items is determined by the year you are in (I believe you can get 2.5 rank items starting in year 3).

#3. Yes, I believe so. You don't have to upgrade your house before you can get any of the other expansions, though.

Luckily, he does cycle back to it eventually, it popped up again but I still don't have a way of getting a non-ore-stone amethyst and ore stones refuse to give me anything above 1.5 stars.

It looks like I do need to expand the mine, but I should have explained that what I meant by 'expand the mine' was really 'expand the tunnel into the mine', which was my bad. The tunnel is open, but it looks like Eileen won't give me the request to open the mine until I finish expanding my farm all the way.

I can also confirm this, you have to be 100% expanded on everything on your farm including the house expansion as Eileen refuses to give me anything but farm/house expansions. I'm fully expanded on all farm upgrades and have the House in my request bucket right now (she auto assigned it to me "oh, it looks like your house is the only thing" or something like that) so unless I am REALLY unlucky, she won't give me the tunnel-to-mine expansion until I am done the house, but then she'll finally cough the darn thing up. I hope.

I am now working on this ridiculously convoluted plan to delay upgrading my house until the 31st, expand the tunnel/mine IMMEDIATELY on the 1st of the next month, then move on the 23rd of that same month so I am safely in my Bluebell house before the pregnancy event triggers, since there is no stopping it from happening 31 days after your house upgrade is complete. If I get stuck in Konohana with that pregnancy event I will scream blue murder!

The tunnel is open, but it looks like Eileen won't give me the request to open the mine until I finish expanding my farm all the way.

Are you in or past year 3 yet? It'd seem logical for Ore Stones to give you an item with a higher star rank if that's the case.
If you are in or past year 3 and Ore Stones still give you Amethyst with only a 1.5 star rank, you could always try jumping into the rivers. 1% chance of finding a 2.5 rank Amethyst is better than no chance at all, right? ...Sorry.

By the way, you are aware of the fact that you'll have to build the Hot Spring (which unlocks after having expanded your farm to 100%) before getting the 'Through the Tunnel' request, right?

If you want to absolutely be sure of not triggering the pregnancy event, you could always try to lower your spouse's heart level. I wouldn't be able to do that myself since I'd feel too guilty, but maybe it'll work for you!

GollygeethimblewimbledoodashDARN IT! Ok, so 6 days of Horror Gift -1000 should be enough to drop me to 6 flowers. Hmmm ... bear with me here.

Right now I had thought I would get the Expand Tunnel request next, but looking at this http://fogu.com/hm10/activities/mining.php :

-Because your farm is at 100%, Eileen's last renovation request will be the "A Hot Spring" request. The spa will cost 2,000,000 G, 50 Material Stone, and 50 Lumber.
-Now that she's out of construction work (don't move farms!), Eileen will prompt you for the fourth "Through the Tunnel" request. Bring her 10 Lumber, 10 Material Stone, and 500,000 G. This will unlock a southern path through the tunnel, but you won't find any gems there; just another opportunity to find Scrap Metal, Copper, Silver, and Ore Stone.
-Finally, you will get the mine request. It will cost 1,000,000 G, 10 Material Stone, and 10 Lumber.

It would go like this:
Summer 20 house upgrade
Fall 1- Hot Springs
Winter 1- Mine 1 (South path)
Spring 1- Mine 2 (actual mine)
Spring 23 - Move farms
Total elapsed time: 97 days

Edit: The event triggered immediately on the next day, so birthday should be Winter 21st, and provided I can move when the baby is still a baby and don't have to wait until it turns into a toddler, I should be good, because it will be born long before the Mine is upgraded anyway.

This is what it says on the site about moving and pregnancy:

If you have a child and are going to move to a town where the farmhouse has not been expanded to accommodate a child, you will have to pay a 1,500,000 G fee when moving for the necessary house expansion. You can not move if you have an active pregnancy.

So I assume you can move if your child had already been born, since at that time you won't have an active pregnancy anymore.

Aww,thanks. I just had my 2nd Silkie chicken die on me, just a few days after my Alpaca died , so it was encouraging to see that you're rooting for me :D

Jessica keeps saying they've died from old age and that they 'loved' me but I am starting to get suspicious she's feeding me a line, because they're droppin' like flies over here! I'm onto you, Jessica. Are you selling my Level 5 production animals on the black market?!

Both my Silkies and my Alpaca lived 3 years or less when the site says they should be living a lot longer than that, so apparently I'm all Hands O' Death over here ... they never get sick or stressed, though, and they always have full hearts, and the stethoscope says they're 'happy and healthy', their feed boxes are always full, and they're brushed every day ... I just don't get it, I tells ya.

Btw I married Kana, because he was adorably nerdy and had a strange obsession with spicy food, so really, what's not to like about that?
