Oooh, I like the idea of an easy mode. That'll be good for when I make a new file to marry a different candidate.

Yea, I totally agree I think the new modes will be fun. I'll probably play on easy to get use to the controls and find my way around town. It would be awesome if they also updated the game with where time stops in doors.

I thought they're already going to have the time stop indoors? Am I mistaking?

I think the new mode will be super interesting. I'm curious as to how "easy" easy is lol. I would want to try it out but I'll probably stick to the normal mode

Don't worry it'll be okay. :)

I think I'll play on easy mode at first if they do it that way.

I will play easy mode, I've played BokuMono since A wonderful life but it does get a bit stressful. I could enjoy and play normal mode, but I wanna make things more simple. ^^;;

I'll just play on Easy Mode. I like my Harvest Moon relaxing, not challenging.

I agree, HM was always best when it was about the simplistic goodness of country life in a small town farm, and the more I can do to take these new games back to that the better.

I guess I'll ask here, how come they can't use the Harvest Moon name in North America but can still have characters from previous HM games? What's the legal issue with the name? I might not have dug enough into the news but doesn't Yoshifumi Hashimoto still work with Natsume or did he branch off and that's what's causing the name change? I dunno, I'm just confused and would like to know why that happened. (Sorry if that's answered in this thread somewhere, I probably missed it)

It doesn't help that the last Harvest Moon game I ever got, besides Rune Factory 4, was Magical Melody so I'm really out of the loop...

???

Hashimoto is the head of development for Marvelous, who develops the Bokumono and now "Story of Seasons" games. Apparently Natsume worked with Marv way back on some earlier ones, but I'm not familiar with how much was involved and which games they were specifically involved with.

Either way, Natsume is taking their product title "Harvest Moon" (which doesn't exist in Japan) and is making their own farming sim games.

The name change and the whole not using previous names is cause it's a new IP (I think). Basically, they can't use Natsume's translation. If the character had the same name in the English version as they did in the Japanese version, it should be fine, but they can't use HM's "Witchkins" or "Reina" and "Cam" cause those are more or less Natsume's "name inventions."

Hopefully that's accurate and makes sense. But, basically, Natsume and Marv split off and now it's just gonna take some time to differentiate between the two and that's just a matter of time + more games.

I want to add on here. From my understand, XSeed can't legally use the name Harvest Moon, as Natsume has a trademark on it. However, they could technically use the names like Reina and Cam, because the individual names are, as far as we have heard, not trademarked. However, since XSeed (and Marvelous) want to establish a new Intellectual Property in the west with Story of Seasons, they want to distance themselves from the "Harvest Moon" title, and use their own names/translations instead of borrowing Natsume's. They also want to do more accurate/less toned down translations than we got with the previous Harvest Moon title's translations, I believe. I also believe someone at XSeed said that while they can't speak a ton on the subject, the idea with distancing themselves is to "not step on anyone's toes" (and from a standpoint of making a new IP, makes sense as well).

And adding on to what everyone else said: XSEED can use the previous BokuMono characters in upcoming BokuMono localizations, because while Natsume would have owned the name "Harvest Moon" and the intellectual property around their localizations, Marvelous always owned the actual characters. As in, the actual art that makes up a character and his or her characteristics that make that character unique would still belong to Marvelous, no matter what the language is. So XSEED can use, say, Witchkins, because Marvelous didn't give up rights to what makes that character who she is -- that is, her appearance and personality -- when they had Natsume doing the localizations. But as Witchkins was not called Witchkins in Japan, and that's Natsume's translation, XSEED chose to rename Witchkins to Witchie.

I like the name story of seasons. But I wish they kept cam and Reina's though but oh well, their JP names are cute as well.
