How am I supposed to make room to build things if I can't get rid of the trees with the spikier leaves? They're everywhere and in the way, and apparently I can't access the mine until a lot of buildings are built. But there is no room no matter how much rearranging I do. HELP?

You can ask anyone if they're willing to trade copper for anything you own.

You have to befriend Iroha, she will give you the blueprints you need to upgrade your axe to cut down those pesky trees. And I believe the Iron axe can cut them down, and iron can be bought at Rebecca's store.

Oops you're right it's iron not copper sorry about that.

Edit: I just remembered copper can be bought at Rebecca's as well.

It actually needs both iron and copper to upgrade/make an iron axe, so this is a rare occasion where I can get to say: you are both correct.

Also, it is very easy to befriend Iroha....if you start giving her gifts every day from the very first day she arrives and continue until Rebecca shows up, then almost every day after that when you speak to her and gift her, she will give you another set of tool blueprints. The blueprints for the ultra tools take a bit longer, but hey....you can give her bamboo shoots and she likes those!! She also likes marguerites and scrap metal, but I keep the scrap metal for a later blueprint. Oh and she likes mushroom soup and you can use the poison mushrooms to make that with. So easy peasy...

If you are playing a male character it is slightly faster getting the ultra blue prints since you can take advantage of the FP boost from her first heart event. However, getting the ultra tool blue prints is not the limiting factor, it is getting the materials to make them, so in the long run it does not make that much of a difference.
