You use the axe to turn branches to lumber right? I'm asking because it seems I can't do it.

You have to use the iron hammer to be able to cut lumber. The first axe that Iroha gives you will only cut the round leafed trees. Just keep giving her little gifts...and she will give you the blueprint for the iron axe.

I already have the iron axe and I thought the hammer is for rocks not branches?

I know what I did wrong I was using my iron axe on black branches oops.

You need a different axe on black branches.

I am sorry that I was tired and said hammer instead of axe...it's funny because the rest of the paragraph said axe, ha. You need the ultra axe to cut black lumber!! I can remember the first time I tried to cut black lumber with an iron axe and how frustrated I was until I upgraded to the ultra model.
