Hmmm, I think a lot of people bought rf on the wii.
I think BTN sold well because... Everyone had a ps1... But not a ton of people had a PSP, or even a vita. Sony's been less successful at breaking into the handheld market, so games released solely for them have a harder time.

I guess you're right. At least here on ushi I think there are more people that played ToD on the wii and not PS3. Fin told me that the PS3 version sold better though :O
When I got HoLV two or three months ago, I wondered the same thing. As this thread shows, HoLV certainly isn't unpopular, at least with those players who've tried it. Like others, I'd mainly chalk it up to it being a PSP title; as previously mentioned, Sony handhelds don't sell nearly as well as their consoles do. Given that numerous fans here don't even have a PSP or Vita and don't seem overly interested in getting one, that is already a big strike against HoLV. Plus, since the BokuMono games have been sticking to Nintendo handhelds as of late (the Super Mario crops in Story of Seasons really solidified this), there's little incentive for farming fans to buy a Vita for a future title.
I ended up buying the digital version of HoLV because I had very little to do this summer. So I bought a Vita (my boyfriend has made me want Persona 4 Golden, so shelling out the extra cash for it wasn't a problem), and I really enjoyed what I played. The characters developed well, and the additions to the cast compared to StH felt in line with the game's mood. On my playthrough, I ended up marrying Alice, who I initially disliked. But if you follow her plot, her character arc shows Alice progressing to the point of being a lot more likeable and relatable than the straight-up tsundere she seemed to be at first.
Also found this on HM Confessions browsing the internet for HoLV info:
I'm really glad there are others who like it, but I'm sad it's popularity is limited by its platform.
I also wish there was a guide on this site for the game. I know there are others out there but I just love Cher's organization and layouts.
Does anybody have a favorite event/ending to the game?
I don't have a PSP or Vita. That's really it. I've heard good things about the game, and I'd play it if it was on a system I owned, but I'm not buying a PSP or Vita just for HoLV either.
I also was a bit late coming to this particular party. I had a PSP but my issue was it's difficult to get HM games where I live. I finally managed to get a umd copy of this about 2-3 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have since bought a HM twin pack featuring HOLV and IL (both of which I owned already) from the PSN. I enjoy this game immensely. The graphics in it are particularly good and I like how the Harvest Goddess looks. It's a nice and easy HM with no stress.
HoLV is freaking amazing. I actually got a power berry cut scene that I've never seen anyone refer to before in guides? (I have screen shots of the whole thing that I will try to post sometime.) The characters are amazing. As other people have mentioned, the date-specific events are not that hard to get.
I really want to pay all the way through... but unfortunately, I am stuck because I don't understand how to play the ocarina and I need to complete one of Aurelia's last events... (If someone wanted to help me out that would be great, I tried around here a couple months back with no luck.)

Oh, that's interesting about the power berry scene. HoLV must be full of all kinds of little secrets like StH. There are tons of hidden scenes and alternate scenes in StH that no one seems to mention in guides or even knows exists. I've found so many little things from playing it over and over that no one seems to find... HoLV is probably like that, too :D
I'm also in that group of people who have HoLV as their favorite game in the series! And, to repeat what everyone has said, a lot of fans don't have a PSP or Vita and the PS2 probably didn't have the majority of the Harvest Moon market, meaning StH got left out of that. And, I'm not sure how much it played a part, but you also can't marry in StH and the game ends, so maybe some people aren't as into that.
HoLV certainly has its imperfections, but it's sorta unique in gameplay compared to the majority of the series. The characters feel more interesting and involved with the plot than other games, which is nice, and whenever I play it feels like I stumble onto some new dialogue or scene I've never seen before, which is really cool I think! Plus, fishing and mining felt a lot more fun to me.
There is however a lot less strategy and complexity involved in things like farming, so people who are invested in that part of the game might be disappointed. And generally the game's difficulty level is not very high. It's easy to make money and get all of the events in one playthrough. Though, I wouldn't say that many HM games are the most challenging games out there.
Anyway, it's really a shame that it didn't sell very well. I'd love to see more games in the series similar to it but maybe on a more accessible console.
I would love to find a UnOT guide in this game, it's very frustrating to look up gamfaqs as I really like their explanations and layouts. I got Lyla to yellow heart and don't know what to do from there, the guys who worked as the wood workers are so important too. I also really like the fact that the game is not so impossible. I only dislike the camera, it's not my friend )8
