Question about treats

so I just started a new file and checked Cher's guide about treats and how many I have to give animals to increase their productivity and it says that Nutra treats aren't available until year 2, but I can already give the other treats in preparation.
Now my question is, can I already give an animal enough of all the other threats to reach level 5 and then just have to give Nutra treats?
for example: a chicken needs 2 treats, 4 grain treats, 15 vegetable treats and 10 nutra treats for each level. can I already give it 8 treats, 16 grain treats and 60 vegetable treats (the total amount I would need to give to reach level 5) in year 1 and then just give 40 nutra treats in year 2 and reach the highest productivity level, or do all treats that I give additionally to those needed for one level up just get wasted?
thank you :)

This is something I'd like to know the answer to as well....I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been an answer posted yet....possibly one of those questions no one knows the answer to because most people don't plan that far ahead?

I'm personally avoiding giving my animals any treats until I fill out the barn at bluebell and can make sure I don't overtreat or give treats to animals who don't need them anymore to give up the goods. Also saves on storage space when you only keep one type of treat at a time.

yeah, I was kinda hoping that it's like in ANB where it doesn't matter in what order you give treats and how many, because all the excess treats needed for one level up just get counted towards the next level up. but then again there are only 2 types of treats for each animal and in ToTT there are 4.
well I don't plan to get more that 1 of each animal, at least not in the first 3 years and since I already have a cow and a sheep and 2 chicken it would be nice to know if I can already start with the treats :)

The answer is yes, you can feed your animals enough normal, grain and vegetable treats to get them to producing 5 of their items in advance of nutra treats and you'll go up a level every time you feed them enough nutra treats.

Yep, I did a speed run and just didn't save(because wow would that have screwed me UP if I had >_<), sold off all my animals but one cow, only thing I'd do is feed my pets, feed and brush the cow and give it a treat, aside from going to bluebell to get new types of treats as they came available. Did up normal, grain and vegetable first then nutra, and the cows productivity went up one every day.

wow, that's what I call dedication :)
but thanks again, it certainly is good to know

Instead of avoiding giving them treats, you could just focus on only one type of treat at a time, buying the amount that will take each animal to the next level. So for regular treats as an example, your cows need what, like 10 or so, but sheep need less, just dd up how many you need for each animal.

If you wait, you'll be several month behind because you can only give a treat once per day.

I think what Farmer Bob meant is probably that he wants to start giving treats to all the animals at the same time. because if he buys maybe three animals and starts giving them treats and then a few days later buys two more animals then it's harder to know which animals needs how many treats.
anyway, I'm closing this topic now, because my question has already been answered and technically this topic is already finished since there is a 10-day answer limit (meaning after 10 days since the last answer you shouldn't post in the topic to revive it).

Exactly. Since every animal has different numbers of treats they need, it would go beyond inquisitive and into obsessive to do what you need to keep track of which animals you've fed what. With one animal grouping at a time, it's simple math, number of treats x animals = how many you buy, when they run out, move on to the next. It's also extremely difficult and dare I say it, impossible to know which animals have had treats if they weren't all bought at the same time, even starting in bluebell you can't get ALL the animals your barn can hold in the end right away.
