They already did that once and it was weird.
All the handheld games tied into those four dragons, but the home console games have more or less done their own thing. Tides of Destiny's plot even managed to not be completely random. (I love Frontier, but it has one of the weakest stories imo.) I would guess that the next game would be handheld, but either way the series has done other plots before, and there's no reason they can't just move on from the dragons for another game or to. Or come back and do something that more heavily involves the ones who you didn't quite interact with as much, maybe.

I remember the head of the RF team said he liked amnesia because it just made it easier, so he had no plans of not doing it/would do it for the future. Assuming he's now at MMV and working on the future games, I wouldn't get my hopes up personally.miss_skye wrote:^
And maybe the next one won't start with the MC having amnesia?
As for the dragons, I don't see why they couldn't do a light and dark one or something? Or baby/new native dragons, etc. There's a lot of things they could do. I will be curious to see where it goes too though.
i've always assumed they would go for a new rune factory game eventually! especially from how i heard forbidden magna did and how it was received; at least that means the team won't be sticking with that specific new series. so yeah, i have hope at least. for an announcement in 2015 or so. maybe i have too much hope. rune factory is so important i am PRAYING ★
Ah, I see. Hey as long as they do end up making a Rune Factory 5 I can put up with more amnesia. It's exciting to think about what the new main characters would look like.Melody Muse wrote:I remember the head of the RF team said he liked amnesia because it just made it easier, so he had no plans of not doing it/would do it for the future. They don't even have to use dragons anymore. There could be a different mythical creature that somehow can tie into the story.

That sounds like really weak excuse though.Melody Muse wrote:I remember the head of the RF team said he liked amnesia because it just made it easier, so he had no plans of not doing it/would do it for the future. I don't think it's too hard to create a character with a little background. They could make a character to live a peaceful life in a small village with parents, but he/she decide to start a new chapter in their life, so they move away and settle down in another village. They would ask elder/guardian of this village, where they can build their house and they would mention a small abandoned farm...
Villager responses could look like "I've heard you used to live in ______. Living on your own is hard, especially at the beginning, so if you need any help...etc" than "I've heard you have amnesia. It must be really hard for you...etc". MC could exchange mail with their parents. They could create a still scenes for wedding and child rising with your parents, taking kid on 2 weeks vacation or something and they don't even need their own character models.
Maybe someday...
As for dragons... there are also 'creatures really close to the dragons' mentioned in Rune Factory Official Memoirs:)
Also remember what Hashimoto said. The team wanted to try something else than work on another RF, but this means they were considering it. I think chances are high.

I can already see it...in the next game...your playable character...will be the Dragon!!!Melody Muse wrote:

What a twist.
we've had protagonists without amnesia before? in ToD? and ToD didn't have any native dragon so i'm not sure why that seems like it'd be an obstacle. instead of the native dragon story arc in the first 4 games, they could always start a new arc and explore other lore the setting has to offer.
and the amnesia trope is an incredibly easy way out for making a character you can insert yourself in and with it being a running theme the writers probably think they can get away with it. personally i've never been invested in the RF series for its story so i honestly don't care if they insist on using amnesia
i'm not really sure how forbidden magna flopping would affect them, but hopefully it means they'd feel safer returning to RF instead of pursuing more FM or starting another new series

Ah sorry I didn't know that we've already had protagonists without amnesia since I've only played the handheld ones. I think it would be interesting to start a new arc.chanko wrote:we've had protagonists without amnesia before? in ToD? and ToD didn't have any native dragon so i'm not sure why that seems like it'd be an obstacle. instead of the native dragon story arc in the first 4 games, they could always start a new arc and explore other lore the setting has to offer.

Yeah, that's true. Honestly as long as they keep giving us cool MC designs (I love Frey's design) and interesting villagers I can't complain.
