I get that it gives 1 point daily until its used up but how many does it start with?

It only gives you .5 addt'l star ranking for your crops

well, technically that isn't right. because if you use trenches then one stick of fertilizer fertilizes more crops. it also depends on the growth rate of your crops, since turnips mature after 5 days or something so if one stick gives them 1 point per day then that makes 5 points and for a 0.5 star increase you need 30 points

that being said, it's something I have asked myself as well. maybe 30? sadly the game doesn't tell you so unless someone tested it there is no way of knowing

This is another one I was also interested to know the answer to, but was less important to me than animal treats since if improving star quality to 5 mattered I'd just pound out low sticks and drop a new one.

The answer is 100, tested by making a two plot trench with 1 stick of fertilizer and 1 soybean, harvested the plant the day it matured and planted a new one to keep one draw on the stick continuously. This was quite a bit easier to test than animal treats as all I needed to do for the majority of the test was go back to bed after the day started. Ahh the joys of zero maintenance, all-season plants. =)

Well I know for me personally when I used it it only added an additional.5 star ranking. So if a crop you plant has a .5 star ranking and you use the fertilizer, then it will bring the crop to a 1 star ranking, unless ur using more than one.

that is entirely possible, depending on the crop and the star rank the seeds have. but again, if the crop only needs a few days to mature and you're only using 1 fertilizer then it will not give it enough points to go from let's a 1 to a 1.5 star rank. otherwise it would be possible to get 5 star crops in the first spring just by sticking 10 fertilizers next to a turnip

On how long it takes something to raise .5 star quality....I think there may be cause to doubt that it's actually 30 star points per .5 increase. Soybeans only take 44 days to mature, so the beans in my test only got 44 star points, yet they were 1.5 at cutting down them. Where'd that other 16 points come from, if it takes 30?

I don't know where I read it but someone said that seeds don't start at 0 points.
0-30 points is 0.5 stars, 31-60 is 1 star and so on. so if it is true that when you plant crops from 0.5 star seeds and they don't start with 0 points, but maybe 15/20 or something, then you actually don't need 30 points to go from 0.5 stars to 1 star
also I checked the guide and it said

Each half star on a star rank is worth 30 Star Points. The 5th star will appear when you reach 271 SP (with a maximum of 300 SP)

30 star points per rank is correct, I confirmed by making a new test: 44 2-slot trenches, 1 fertilizer 1 soybean and each day pounded 1 fertilizer out. It takes 1 star point to raise seeds bought from gombe to 1 star, or at least it only takes that with soybeans, but on the 31st soybean harvested, 1.5 star quality.
