It seems so far that as Lirishae stated, harvest moon TLV crops seem to mimic their real life components.

@AlexRae re: purple peppers

I planted three patches of 18 red peppers starting on the first of the month. I then save scummed to try and get 2-3 purple pepper mutations per patch each harvest. It adds up once you get to the end of the month. Part of the problem is that purple peppers take a really long time to mature (I think 9 days)

Edit: I staggered each patch of 18 by one day (ex plant 1st group on day 1, next group on day 2). Makes save scumming easier and I aI'm for 2-3 mutations per group of 18.

Yeah, thanks Cradke, I did the same thing, but I ended up with 42 final Purple Peppers at the end of Spring. I don't know if that's more insulting or better than having half.
Can also confirm I got Habanero->Devil Pepper with corn blend at HE -5 in Swampy in Summer. Woo woo Robbie!

KittenRose, please don't worry about your contribution too much! I barely discover or unlock anything, I'm more like the group notetaker. Nora even made the better spreadsheets for crop charts, I'm just trying to keep them up to date. Rough stuff!

Speaking of, Robbie, on the ones that have no preferred elevation, were there any elevations they DIDN'T grow at? And for the regrowing crops, did their regrowth time vary any? If not, what's their regrowth?

also I lost my enthusiasm for my save file because my chickens are dying of old age. :( I am a great big ol' softie and I know I can't save them because I'm not married, let alone with a kid. It kills me to deal with it. Waaaah. I knew it was coming, but I didn't want to stop helping you guys/playing this game. :( As frustrating as it is, I find it kind of oddly charming and soothing in it's own mindnumbing way.

I know what you mean about the chickens...I have the worst luck with the longetivity of mine...they die just when they start producing high quality egg.

Feeding mine primarily every day and using Great Feed, as well as picking them up every day until their affection maxed really helped me, Tri. The extra 50g per feed is really worth it once you've been in the swing of things. They just... have such a short life. :( I am not looking forward to my cows and sheep being next. And I don't want to think about the horse. Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll make a Fast potion and I can breed my horse.

Second confirmation on Purple Potato->Black Potato!

It's the skinny guy in the corner! I can also confirm that Rain/Storm is not required, nor is Orange Compost. In fact, in all my scumchecks the orange compost pile at HE -5 did worse than the unfertilized (other than Rowan) pile at HE -3. Could be elevation, could be Rowan tapped the top pile more, but either way, it seems Rowan is plenty enough oomph to get the job done, and orange compost may not help enough to offset the cost.
And yes Liri, the picture's for you. ;) You seem to prefer harvest shots over the encyclopedia shots so I'll keep that one for myself.

@Alex, the crops I grew without preferred elevations do not grow at HE -16 or below like all the others without preferred elevations ! And nice job on those second confirmations. As for regrowth, I didn't record them, but since I have the preferred heights now I can go plant them all and see later

Question, why aren't Black Potatoes darker? The name sorta indicates that. @_@

Unfortunately, Alex's image only has a tiny sliver of Black Potato in the Upper Right Corner...the rest is purple potato. One small jerk can mess up where a picture is centered on the 3DS. But it is there...even very tiny.

Actually the black potato is the lower left corner, the skinny guy. And black potatoes are near identical in color to purple potatoes, they're just skinny/oblong, like a yam. Allow me to demonstrate:

Edit; ahahaha you guys were quick on that one! But still, some pictures to help. There really isn't any color difference between purple and black, just size.

Purplish-black Potato? Doesn't really look purple or black.

@AlexRae: *comforts* :< I know how you feel--I used to stop playing my save files when I knew my first chicken's time was about up. ToTT was seriously the first HM game where I sucked it up and kept playing, but it really took a lot of joy out of the game. I am just glad that pets never die of old age, because I name my cats/dogs after my real life cats and dogs, and if one of them died I seriously could. not. handle. it. @_@ I'm really glad TLV gave us the purple sprite, but I really wish animal death would be removed from future games.

Thank you for the picture! Yeah, I prefer harvest pictures showing a comparison with the crop it mutates from, since that seems most helpful. You've been a ton of help, too! In a way you're responsible for everything that's been discovered in this thread, since if you hadn't PMed me when I was burnt out and frustrated, I never would have made this thread, and the terrific group of people here may not have come together to discover everything. xD

Argh! I couldn't tell the difference until I put my glasses on...I usually don't need them for close up work but allergies have been plaguing me and maybe that screwed up my vision just enough not to see it.
