Before I took a break the last few weeks, I was testing purple peppers in summer. I tested my usual elevations/soil types with at least the first 6 fertilizers to no avail (sorry for the vagueness, wanted to post while I remembered).
Purple peppers take FOREVER to mature. I think someone mentioned white pepper --> golden pepper and with the recent discoveries, I'm leaning that way too.

@Cradke: Thank you for the picture! I was leaning toward purple -> golden, since white pepper is a third stage/fourth tier mutation (Green Pepper -> Bell Pepper -> Magic Pepper -> White Pepper). I would be really shocked if there's a such thing as fourth stage/fifth tier mutations, but plenty of discoveries like dryad, titan potatoes, and rye just go to show that mutations don't necessarily follow a pattern.
@Trichorse: Yes, I've gotten rye at HE-3 dry soil with Mosquitofish fertilizer. I had better luck at higher elevations, but that may have just been the RNG. Rye's preferred elevation is HE-10/WL, so by all rights it *should* grow just as well at medium elevations. It may grow on other soil types as well; I haven't tested that yet.

I was looking at the Green Pepper family and I noticed two branches in the family:
- Purple Pepper
Green Pepper - Red Pepper
- Bell Pepper
- Magic Pepper
- White Pepper
As you can see, Purple Pepper is the only one in the family that requires fish fert. The other branch uses no fertilizer. Purple Pepper seems extremely unlikely to be the parent of Golden Pepper. A 4th stage mutation would be nuts but seems likely and in that case Golden Pepper more than likely requires no fertilizer.
EDIT: Okay... the family list did not come out as planned you but get the gist.

I thought the family went:
Green Pepper - Bell Pepper - Magic Pepper - White Pepper
Green Pepper - Red Pepper - Purple Pepper
An extra generation after White Pepper to me seems more unlikely than Golden Pepper coming from Purple Pepper, simply because I've yet to see a family with more than 3 mutation generations after the base (if there is one, I missed it).

Yeah the tree does go like that. ANYWAY I'm almost in Spring so I will test for Giant Pumpkins very thoroughly.

Giant Pumpkin is is almost certainly a fall mutation. I grew Great quality ones in fall, and they look like jack-o-lanterns. Not putting them in fall would be a crime to Halloween.

I know but its best to test every theory.

Has anyone tried low-level swampy ground in Fall? I had tried barren soil in Spring from Pumpkin (levels 1 to 18 or so) and never got a mutation.

Totally makes sense about the golden peppers probably not coming from white.
@Lirishae here are pics of white carrots and red zeppelins. They aren't in their season or next to their mutated crop, but you can use them if you want (or until someone posts something better)

I have, but that when I was super new to the game. I think I may have gotten one, because it seems very familiar to me. It's like it's on the edge of my memory. I didn't really care about such things then, though. lol!
I think it's worth a try, at least.

I haven't. I tested pumpkins at all elevations in dry soil in fall with some of the fish fertilizers, but I can't remember which. Probably it's buried somewhere in this thread.

I can confirm Rye! From Barley in Dry Soil with Mosquitofish Fert, elevations HE-3 to HE+2. It's more yellow to Barley's golden. Haven't figured out how to get pics from my SD card to here yet, though.

Thanks! I've got a screenshot of rye already, so no worries about that one

Now if I can only figure out what the heck I'm doing wrong with getting White Peppers...I've got Magic Peppers on Swampy, well watered...and even on a cloudy day I got nothing. Guess I'll have to use Lush with a row of White Berries between two Magic Pepper rows.

It's been successfully grown without the white berries, so it's not a cross-pollination as was originally thought. It's just really, stupidly rare. It took me more than a dozen resets to get it again after it initially popped up >_< If it helps, I was growing them at HE-3 in lush soil.
