Yep this has been asked so ill just quote what has been said.

RopeMaidenKirie wrote:While the company that made all the RF's went bankrupt, Marvelous AQL(Neverland's publisher) hired the RF team afterwards. So there's really no reason there can't be RF5, considering they released Kinki no Magna, which they had been working on when Neverland was still running.

The only person I know of that didn't make the transition to Marvelous was the lead programmer of the RF series.

But yeah, there's lots of hope still :D Especially considering how well RF4 sold. The team being with Marvelous now is only a good thing IMO.

And this one:
RopeMaidenKirie wrote:Glad to help! xD yeah the whole situation was just kind of crazy and confusing. Luckily, it came out with the best possible scenario in having almost all of the RF team devs hired by Marvelous.

Kinki no Magna was made because they wanted to try something new instead of just working on RF because they didn't want to burn out. Kind of a palate cleanser if you will. While it didn't do super hot, they are still supporting it post-release so that's great. Hoping that the "refresher" was good for them and they can hopefully work full speed ahead on the new RF.

One of the reasons that I'm so personally optimistic is the timeline of events.

Nov 2013 - Neverland came out and said they were filing for bankruptcy and ceasing operations. Marv ended up hiring the RF staff very soon afterwards.

Feb 2014 - Marv announced Kinki no Magna, and at that particular point in time the project was 50% complete. They were able to bring over the previous Neverland assets obviously for Kinki to Marvelous when the team moved. The AQL's 2nd quarter profits in 2012 raising 106% more than they expected. That's huge percentage increase. (Even the game being a resounding success couldn't save Neverland from poor monetary management decisions by its superiors, but I digress) The game also sold amazingly well in the NA to the point where XSEED had to restock because it was sold out everywhere. Also shows that it sold so well that they were willing to take the financial risk and take the time and bring RF4 over to EU despite having to jump through a ton of hurdles. While I'm sure that the Japanese fanbase and sales are the main considerations while making and selling the games, obviously very strong overseas sales can do nothing but help the RF cause for potential future releases.

This was stupidly long (sorry!) But I hope this helps people feel a little more hopeful about the situation :D

I have a feeling we'll be hearing something from the RF team in 2015. Just a hunch.

So nothing yet but there have been rumors that RF5 was in production before the company went bankrupt, so it would be wierd if Marvelous didn't continue it.

P.S Welcome to the Rune Factory world fishy. Glad you like RF and showed an interest (the more people interested the more likely they will make a new one) I almost like it more than HM right now (almost :P )

Considering how well RF4 sold, and how they didn't just drop the European version of it, I'd say there still a very good chance of a new RF game. Whether it's actually RF5 or not is to be seen though... generally, you do see a console release between each of the main numbers. RFF came out after RF2, and then ToD came out after RF3. My money is on a Wii-U release. Since it would be a new console, there's probably a bit of extra effort going in to make sure that it feels bigger than the last two console games.

Marvelous isn't interested in the Wii U. Don't hold your breath.

RF consoles generally don't do that well in terms of sales and since wii u isn't even doing that well either; I reaaaally doubt we'll be seeing a console rf any time soon.

Let's look at the sales numbers

(These are all first-week sales)

RF Frontier: 18,520
RF Tides (PS3): 28,939
RF Tides (Wii): 10,495

Rune Factory 1: 42,210
Rune Factory 2: 52,049
Rune Factory 3: 41,279
Rune Factory 4: 85,955

RF4 has gone out to sell well over 200k copies in Japan alone, not counting US and EU numbers and is by far the best selling game in the series. XSEED said that it sold well above what was expected, and had sold out for awhile. I just don't see them changing the platform when the game sold gangbusters, not even putting into consideration on how poorly the WiiU is doing at the moment.

The Wii had a huge install base, same with PS3 and they still couldn't match the handheld numbers.

If they do come out with 5, I hope they do better in terms of the main character(s).
Spoiler:
While I liked 4, I hated the two protagonists. The reason is because it seems that after they got hit in the head they had a personality change and they just ended up becoming dense idiots when it comes to things. I don't recall Raguna, Kyle, or Mice being this dense throughout the game. Oh, screaming VENTI and reminding me that I have to save this overgrown lizard child throughout the game is just plain annoying!

LOL

Although, if I remember correctly, it was hinted multiple times through conversation that Lest/Frey is being dense on purpose. Just for the fun of it, but other times... not so much X)

The only thing I could ask for with the any possible future protags is that they're more mature both personality and physically, not to say we haven't had any mature protags before. I think it's time to switch it up a bit. I've been thinking for awhile now it would be cool if we had a somewhat... introverted MC. We always have those characters that are really hard to get along with because they're so introverted/shy, but in the end we got along because the MC was so extroverted. I think it would be neat for it to be the other way around. The villagers are trying to get along with us but we're the introshy one this time. We could be the lone wolf MC that slowly opens up to the town. I don't really see this happening, though.

On the topic of a console game, I'll just repeat what everyone else has said and say it's a very long shot. They really don't have any reason to go back to console, it' not really worth it when they can just make it for the handheld, which sells much better. I'm getting over consoles myself, it's just so much easier to play this type of game on a handheld. I like saving the consoles for the really big and high quality games.

I sure do hope we get another Rune Factory game. I'm going to assume that we will unless they state otherwise.
