If the wild animals are running away from you, then you need to toss the food at them. This is similar to how the wild animals from Tale of Two Towns worked. Throw the food so it lands close to them, then keep your distance until you see them eat it.

Once their friendship increases and they stop running away, then you can walk up and directly hand them something to eat.

Does this mean that we don't litter when we throw items on the ground then? (As long as someone picks them up)? It always frustrated me in the older games when « Puppy Doodoo » disappeared into the ground and then you lose FP with everyone. Lol

Been this way for a while. You only litter if you toss something into water.

I guess I forgot. Played ToTT and Sunshine Islands in between ANB and this one. Good to know for sure though. :)

I'd also like to know what food items for wild animals! I know Otmar sells rabbit food, but I'm pretty sure those are for the anagora rabbits and not the wild ones..

Thank you, Cher!
I've noticed that the bunny that wanders around just outside your farm area likes the turnips I gave it, but not fish, and the sparrow near the river didn't like fish or the turnips. I've yet to satisfy it. OTL

Just out of curiosity, what's the benefit to befriending the wild animals in this game? Is it like previous games where they would give you items from time to time, or can you actually take them home with you/put them in your safari?

Rabbits like fodder and carrots. Sparrows really like corn, but will also eat wheat or soy beans. You can get more information in http://wikiwiki.jp/bokutsuna/?%CC%EE%C0%B8%C6%B0%CA%AA. It is in japanese. The table for food is the one which has words in purple. They correspond to their favorite food.

They will give you items. you can see them in the table below the one I mentioned above. I think the weather must be sunny for the event to occur.
