The lack of any access to ANY clothes in the beginning is frustrating. Like, can we at least have an option for what the other gendered protagonist has?

Also, relationship requirements (especially for break ups), is RIDICULOUS. Like, damn. Two heart events is not enough to tell whether you want to commit; and it partly is a commitment due to how much of a pain in the « Mr.Gourmet's hat » it is to break up, good gawd. MIGHT AS WELL GO AHEAD AND GET MARRIED CAUSE YOU'RE STUCK EITHER WAY. (not really, but really).

Overall i do like this game, but it feels really slow starting. I feel like this game is just artificially trying to lengthen itself. By placing date restrictions (like no cabin country vendor till summer! No horse till spring 15, no multiplayer till the end of spring, no public land till the end of spring, no town editing till the beginning of summer, no mining till the beginning of fall, all characters come at certain dates and etc) the game is being lazy at being deep. by placing restrictions the game is FORCING players to play longer, just so they can get at all the content. we are literally given like 10% of the game at the start. How do they expect people to keep playing with only 10% value? It's not even really unlocking (like island of happiness where you had to ship stuff to get more people to move in) it's literally, sleep until they arrive.
I know Harvest Moon DS was one of the hardest games/annoying games in the series, but it was hard b/c of the sure depth of the game. there was no date restrictions that made you sleep really early at the beginning of the game b/c nothing had been unlocked yet only to not sleep at all at the end (judging from my very rigid schedule of ANB where every second counted at the end, while the first year i was sleeping before nightfall). The game lacks balance and consistency so i'm either really bored with nothing to do, or too busy so that i get annoyed and bored... this superficial lengthening is really cramping my farming style.

BUTTT

I really like the new harvesting system since there are no longer any helpful harvest sprites. Sometimes, in the other games, I wished i could hire other hands to pick up my 100 something crops, this way, it's nice and simple. Do like an Elise type lifestyle ohoohohohohohoho.....

I like the idea of different fields

I like swimming

I like character design (personality.. questionable)

I like Eda (she's a darling).

I really hope that we don't have to suffer through a pet animation every time they herd the animals. cute the first 3 times, then it got annoying. at least give us a skip option!! same with the shop people coming in. I had to time my schedule so that I could run to town momentarily to avoid the painful scenes....

Yeah the breaking up requirements are insane. It's pretty much commit or restart your file (unless you're cool with ignoring festivals for a whole season which really sucks) wrote up a comment about that over on the XSEED forums in my feedback thread lol.

Not to mention the 5 months of wooing and gifting you have to do if you want to see both regular/reverse proposals. A hot mess.

Yeaaah lol. I spent about 3 hours tonight (on my 2nd save and kept my main save) just spamming them gifts and ignoring literally all else just to see the reverse confessions to see whether I wanted to wait or not on my actual file. Noooope.

Glasses.

Excuse me, Marvelous. Some of us actually wear glasses because we NEED them. We don't wear glasses "for fashion." My character has been wearing glasses this whole time and people are still like "Are those glasses fake?" "Are you wearing them for fashion?" "Since when have you wore glasses?" Um. FYI game, my character actually needs those, kthx.

If it helps, I get that IRL a bit too tbh. Mostly because people have started wearing them for fashion and also because a lot of people with poor vision opt for contacts now.

So while the fake part is annoying, at least the things like "since when have you wore glasses" makes sense because you didn't when you arrived. I guess the MC was wearing contacts then. XD

What is up with catching critters? Whatever shape your character has to overlap in order to successfully catch the critter is really weird for dragon flies and frogs. I think maybe it's placed a couple millimeters off center, or something. I really enjoyed bug catching in ANB but I feel like I have to button mash like crazy in SoS.

The one thing I haven't seen mentioned here yet is my own tiny pet peeve: I wanted to make fertilizer using the barn dirt! Poop is a farmer's friend! We should be using it to enrich our fields! Instead, it vanishes as soon as you stab it with the (rather difficult to obtain) pitchfork.

I do agree with the annoyance of catching insects and the silliness of milk and wool flying across the barn as soon as you've harvested it (Whoops! Slipped outta my hands again! I'm such a butterfingers.) But most of the things listed in this thread as irritants are things I like and see as improvements. I like the spacious layout! Took me a while to learn my way around, but now I know where I'm going. I like the lack of a shipping bin! I threw me for a loop at first, but the trade system is new and interesting. And I like that it's harder to build friendship with everyone. I'm still busy focusing on building up my farm. Once I'm more established, I'll put more focus on giving gifts. I think the developers have really tried to make changes that will add complexity with meaning.

Granted, the only other Harvest Moon games I've played were ToTT and ANB, so I'm sure that colors my opinion. Also, I prefer the farming aspect of the game over the dating/marriage stuff, so I tend to overlook a lot of the wonky aspects of the relationship part of the game.

Why is my cat an « Mr.Gourmet's hat »? The fence gates look so nice, but lo and behold I can't use them because the cat keeps opening them and letting my animals out...

LMAO.

I'm sorry you have to go through this, but just reading this alone just makes me laugh so hard.

And I laughed reading that you laughed. It's not all bad at least.

@Lieicent I literally witnessed my horse opening one of the gates itself and found my sheep halfway across my farm a few hours later??

My main complaint right now is how the horse bothers me to no end in the barn when he follows me around, but at least in the mountains he's harder to lose when I'm sprinting football fields just to catch the stupid dragonflies.

Oh my « Harvest Goddess » I hate that so much. It makes doing my work a nightmare to circumnavigate it. Like it's such a small thing, but over time it really gets on your nerves.
