Do you have to upgrade the axe before you can cut down trees and stumps? Because with the old axe all my character does is spin in front of trees and stumps.

You don't need to. It depends on how tall the tree I guess. You'll probably trying take down the "bigger" tree so that might take a while.

For the stumps, you just need to hit A button, not hold it down.

I think you should be able to cut them down without upgrading. The upgrade only reduces the stamina consumption and the number of times you need to hit the trees before they fall down. I haven't tried it yet, but I was able to destroy the stones with my old hammer, so I assume it also works with the axe.

The old axe does the trick, just less efficiently. If you leave the tree or rock and come back to finish the job the damage you've already done is retained.

I think one tree takes 25 hits and the other 50, with the old axe.

I believe that's if your playing in seedling mode only. If your not in seedling mode then it's double this.

I'm playing in seedling. Thanks guys. I notice with the rocks you can go back to smashing them. Glad it's the same with the trees.
