I am at Summer 1. Just unlocked Cabin vendor. I have the seed maker shed and just got the chicken coop. I have opened the field rental bit. I've participated in the festival's, losing, of course, lol.

I have talked to and given prezzies to Eda every day, as well as bugs to Fritz and various other residents, but I only get ... when I check Eda's friendship level.

Am I neglecting someone/something?

In ANB the gift levels were 800/500/300 but in SOS the levels are 1000/500/300, so it is actually faster when giving the person's special gift Both games are only +50 when giving a neutral level gift.

The "..." means you are above 10,000 but below 20,000. Being between 0 and 10,000 results in the scribble bubble, so you are making friendship progress with Eda.
