On old games you could see how many hearts you had on someone, and you can see it on animals in this game but is there a way to do it with villagers??

If you press L next to a character you will see something above his head giving you a estimate of the number of FP he has. For instance, between 0 and 10,000 you see a black swirl, while between 10000 and 20000 you see 3 dots (...). I think that for higher FP you can see musical notes and hearts, but I do not know the FP range for them.

0 to 9,999 FP = squiggly circle
10,000 to 19,999 FP = (...) thought bubble
20,000 to 29,999 FP = horizontal hash marks
30,000 to 39,999 FP = vertical marks
40,000 to 49,999 FP = music notes
50,000 to 59,999 FP = sparkles
60,000 or more = floating hearts
