As the title asks, is there any reason to ship the raw crop? I didn't get my kitchen til Summer so I didn't really run across the issue with the mess of turnips I grew, but now I have a load of tomatoes that I can easily cook into tomato soup for more money.

Do you need to ship a certain amount of a crop to unlock new seeds/crops like some previous installations did? Or just go crazy in the kitchen?

Thanks!

Depending on which mode you chose you have to ship between 10,500 or 15,000 crops and dishes to unlock tropical country. It doesn't matter which one you do first( feel free to ship a mixture of both)

Yes. Cher's guide specifically mentions this. Scroll to the bottom.

To unlock Tropical Country, you have to ship at least 15,000 crops in Original Mode or 10,500 crops in Seedling Mode among plenty other things.
Shipping cooked recipes count toward the 15,000 cooked recipes (Original Mode) and 10,500 cooked recipes (Seedling Mode).
