Does anyone else thinks he's worthless?? All he does is charge you for waking you up..he doesn't heal or anything USEFUL. Then he takes all your money...EFF YOU JONES

He's charging you for the time he's spent caring for you (and you using a bed) while unconscious. It's also character development; to contrast him and Nancy. Nancy doesn't charge you, iirc.

I would agree that him not healing you is odd, except that the game needs to punish the player for fainting/overworking etc. Otherwise you'd be able to overwork yourself with no penalty except a little cutscene time wasted, and therefore food and potions and such would be fairly useless.

Plus, irl, if you go to a hospital ER (at least in some countries), you will get charged, even if you're not cured and instead released from their care. I don't see why he shouldn't charge you tbh. I mean, in theory he did heal you enough to wake your unconscious self up, imho.

Yeah but 'hospitals' HEAL. All he does is take all if not half your money..I would understand if he healed you then charged you but seeing as he DOESNT do anything it makes no sense.

When you're poisoned, paralyzed etc. he's healing you automatically when you talk to him. I often forget to bring medipoison or antidote with me, so he's done me a good deed many times.

It's very rare but sometimes he doesn't charge you either like Nancy, and I've had it vice versa where Nancy has charged me. But again both of these are rare.

Melody Muse has a good point. It makes sense from a worldbuilding standpoint, yes?

All the same, I usually reset if I faint and get price-gouged by Jones. :P Whatever I was doing isn't worth the amount of money one loses.

It would be interesting to test out the likelihood of being charged and not being charged.

Yeah, that's what I always thought, Kaist. I mean, I understand, in theory, that if you see a doctor and they don't cure you, why pay them, but I can say for IRL, as someone who has gone to the ER for problems that they couldn't find the cause of, I can say that even if you're not cured, you still get charged. They have to pay for the time/bed etc. I mean, yeah, it's a game, but I still found it realistic for him to charge you.

Now, does this all fit with RF logic, which is the most important point? That's up for debate, ofc. I mean in a game where going to a bathhouse heals you more than a hospital, it's definitely debatable. But I think overall it's just a motivator to get you to not overwork yourself.

Nancy never charges me. And if you were to go to a hospital unconscious, paralyzed and poisoned. Mm I'm pretty sure they would heal you. He does neither...that « Tulip ».

Oh I more meant if they didn't know what was wrong, sorry, haha. But then again, we'd hope Jones would be more capable than that. :P

Does anyone remember if the doctors in the other RF games (that had one? I only remember the lady in 2 tbh) heal you? I've been wondering on that.

You're not the only one who hates Jone. He charges you a frickin' arm and leg every time you feint. I know he has to earn money and I don't paying the medical bill, but he always charges you 90% of what you have in your pocket instead making the price constant.

^ :o Jones checks your wallet to see how much you have when you're unconscious confirmed.

It's funny too because prior to release, Hashimoto stated that the complaints about Marjorie from RF3 charging you too much was "addressed" and that things such as a couple discount would tone things down.

Weeeellll it fixed nothing and getting charged by Jones in HARD MODE is its own special kind of nightmare mode.

Guess he meant Nancy, who as everyone else here stated, gives you no charge.

The thing is even the characters/plot acknowledge that Jones is a greedy piece a' « Puppy Doodoo ». One dialogue has him grimly and eerily saying that he'll PURPOSELY charge them extra if they keep overworking themselves and I'm sitting here thinking, "You realize the protagonist risks his/her life for you guys while you all just sit around and do nothing unless you're invited?".

I think that in the case of that bit of dialogue, it was intended to come across as concerned... not greedy. It's not nice, per se, but it's a way to keep the (stubborn) protagonist thinking about what'll happen if they endanger themselves without a Very Good Reason. The protagonist's life isn't just their own, after all, not now that they live in Selphia. Other people care and worry about them- and what would they do without the protagonist? It's not an idea any of them care to entertain.

He's showing that he cares. It's an awful weird way to do so, though.

It may not be fair from a player standpoint (I definitely don't think it's fair at all- really, you're going to take all of that money, money that I need to feed myself/my monsters/my crops/my family?) but, again, from a character and worldbuilding standpoint, it makes sense.

The debate, then, is whether or not going with the character/worldbuilding POV was the best decision when considering the hospital.
Spoiler:
It wasn't, although it adds a nice bit of subtlety to think about... if you care to.
(One could argue that the better idea is to simply not faint, but that's just not going to work sometimes.)
