well, not gameplay help, but help of another kind.

see, i think my ps3 is in need of repair, and it's well outta waranty now, so the price tag for the repair is about $85. naturaly, i want to make sure i even HAVE an issue at that price.

ok, so here's the problem. when i get in large groups of monsters, some sounds just stop playing. weapon sounds, character grunts, even quick equip menu sounds have gone. i have my ps3 sound cables ran directly to headphones, so i know something's out of place. i only started noticing it in the water spirit shrine, mostly on floor 5. having support monsters only seems to drop the framerate during these moments.

so, is this common behavior in this game? in the ps3 version at least?

this is far from the first game i've had issues with, but MOST (not all) seem to come from disc based games, and quite frequently, there's a sound related problem.

but since i know glitches and hickups happen, and i do have OCD, i thought i'd ask before risking $85 on a repair i may not need.

If you're having issues with multiple games, then it sounds like an issue with the system, rather than the game itself. I can't really say whether it's normal or not for the sound to cut out like that for the PS3, but I know for a fact that it didn't do that for the Wii version.

This might be too late. I got the Wii RFTOD When my game plays RFF music for a while and stop. But it just happened once sine I realized it wasn't playing the normal winter theme.

At least in my experience, ToD on PS3 (I have the older slim model, not super slim) can lag slightly when there are TONS of enemies and you are attacking them all or most of them at once. That being said, the lag isn't really that bad (barely noticeable) and I've never had sound cut out... it's probably your system as others have said.

Also, I don't know where you live but $85 seems pricey for a repair. Depending on your storage, you might be better off getting a refurbished system with larger storage for only a little more than that.

I'm a Wii player and the biggest issue I've ever encountered is the game freezing. But that was probably because the Wii overheated after I was playing for hours. And also I experience a ton of lag with big mobs, when I turn the sound effects and voices off and just leave the BGM, the lag becomes much better. So maybe the reverse happens for you? Instead of experiencing lag you experience sound problems, if that makes sense.

Also I've never had to get repairs so Idk what a good price is, but at $85 bucks, just save your money and put it toward a new system or something. Even I can tell that's outrageous.
