The only thing that bothers me about the TLV horse is that it goes to sleep at 8 PM with the other livestock, and waking it up makes it lose hearts. Otherwise it's nice and fast and stays put when you dismount, unlike the slow, near-useless stalker horse of SoS. It takes several seconds to start galloping or dismount from it, isn't that much faster than your on-foot run speed, warps back to your barn any time you trigger a cutscene, and chases you around everywhere you go so that you'll accidentally mount or hit it with a tool when you don't mean to. The only thing it's good for is fast-traveling from the signposts.

I really can't say much about the fences... My livestock have lived in the barn for six years now, and Calvin has 0% chemistry >>; It's so much easier this way.

I'd be perfectly happy with out the horse, buuuuut...I kinda want to S rank everything. Which means winning the stupid horse race. Bleh.

And LOL about the chemistry with Calvin; I did the same thing as you with my boy farmer; it's year 8 and Calvin's chemistry (which I started to work on about 1 year ago in the game) is at about....11%. I honestly don't like using him; if he'd put the dang animals BACK without being told it'd be fine (maybe he "learns" to do this later? I can't imagine he does). But since your animals LOVE to stand right in front of the !$#%^#@$#@ bell and block your path...*whoosh* goes Calvin and now you've either got to endure the "grumpy-wumpy, down in the dumpy!"/affection loss or reset your stupid day.

I think he's even slower to gain affection than Dewy is....my Dewy will finally hit 100% in year 8. Even if I had been using Calvin, I don't think he'd do so. Then again, other than possibly learning that derp, maybe the animals should go home, I don't see what effect higher chemistry with him would have in the game.

Bought the bundle for my XL, and the dog and chicken for my 2DS (only had $2 on that console; I only really keep it because I sort of crazy love the old-school translucent plastic).

Looks great on my 2DS, but ends up looking a bit cluttered on my XL--but that's because I have my icons set small and there are a LOT of them. I'm almost pure digital and I buy a lot of games...some reorganization is called for!

I bought the dog theme and Luke. I was going to get the cow and the dog theme but I realized I had enough left over for the DLC so I got that instead. Will get the cow next time.

Hey Wolf, I replied to you over on Gfaqs. Putting a tile on top of a column of soil turns the whole column into stone! You have to leave the tile up there, but it's pretty nifty. Sadly not useful for making a mountain or somesuch since the tile has to stay in place, but when I noticed this I immediately thought of the big structure you made.

Ended up getting the bundle, since it was only $1 more than the two themes I wanted most... Then caved some more and bought Hanafuda. I swear I'm not making a habit of this u_u; At any rate, my 3DS is officially fabulous now xD

Speaking of terraforming, I noticed a nifty little trick with water awhile back... I'm probably not the first person to think of it, but I'll post a picture soon anyway.

Oooh, do tell...since my boy farmer has just TWO known crops to unlock, I find myself with a lot of time on my hands (especially since I have another whole season to go until I can get to fall and some serious testing again).

Maybe we should start a terraforming tips thread? My fave thing so far still is the bridge glitch to get you into the mining areas. Though I find myself making a warping sound effect every time my character is slurped off the screen and into the mine. Yes, I have issues.

(ETA: I have a few paid themes on my 3DS, from back when I assumed we'd be getting the smaller N3DS so I could have matching faceplates. Curses! >_<)

Well, this probably isn't anything major, but I figured out how to make a completely unsupported waterfall/fountain type thing... Normally you'd have to connect it to at least one block of dry ground, due to the fact that the game will change the "dig" command to "dig water channel" if the tile is adjacent to water. So you normally can't dig away that column of ground. But you can use dig, fill, and dig water channel commands from a diagonal tile, so you can do something like this:

Right side & back:

This is more of a "proof-of-concept" playing around type thing than my final waterfall, though. If I'm not explaining it well enough (most likely) I'll try to take some pictures that illustrate what I mean more clearly.

Oooh, neat! Magical Waterfall! I could see making a "centerpiece" using something like that ...I've been eyeing that one weird bit of land that sticks out like a finger in roughly the center and trying to decide what I wanna put there...

I've seen that trick before. Someone posted pics of it, but I already have enough waterfalls in my valley to bother trying it. It looks neat though, and you could use it like a fountain.

I actually dunno if I should turn my walls stone though...I had thought up a back story for it on why the walls are soil instead of stone, so turning it stone would mess up the storyline. Of course, I could say that after they left, other people that came after tore it down and made a stone wall in its place, but a horde of rampaging top-hat wearing raptors appeared and killed them all or drove them out, thus the castle became abandoned yet again. What do you guys think?

Yeah, I didn't think I could be the first person to think of it XD Maybe some people will see it who haven't heard of it though!

Freelance, maybe one of the builders went back in time after the dirt castle was a flop and made it out of stone instead, so they drive off the original invaders successfully! But then top hat-wearing raptors appear!

All you have to do to turn it back to dirt is to take the tile off (I can't remember if you can just pick them up or if you have to basically destroy them), so if you change it and then change your mind, it's very undo-able. :)

On the subject of dirt and stone...has anyone else ever had dry soil just randomly turn into stone? I've had it happen a couple of times; once in a dry patch in front of my barn (so in the main initial section you can play with), and then...well, I made a wall of soil over by the Underworld Kings area (up on the stone mountain), because I thought the mine I was looking for was up but it was down...and I had it one square over the wrong direction anyway...and then I was lazy and left it for a looooong time becaue it was early in the game and I didn't really need access to that stuff yet anyhow. When I came back seasons later, my soil wall was now a STONE wall (and very annoying to remove, might I add). So it seems like there are some possible conditions under which soil CAN turn to stone. Maybe something to do with getting consecutive HOT days in summer? It'd be interesting to experiment with.

@Lirishae Hmmm, do you think that people going back in time sounds like a plausible storyline? It sounds rather unlikely, whereas stories of top hat-wearing raptors have appeared many times over the past 100 million years. That sounds more plausible than time travelling. I could be horribly mistaken though. Maybe time traveling really does exist, and that it was the carnosauruses that wore top hats, not the raptors.

@irulethegalaxy Never knew that dirt could turn to stone. I never had that happen yet in my valley.

@Freelance Wolf: I have it on good authority that many people in stories have traveled back in time!

@irulethegalaxy: I've never seen that happen either... Then again, maybe it did and I just never noticed, or maybe it's because I dug the placed dirt up too soon for it to change to stone. That would be really nifty if we could figure out the cause though! Was the entire wall made of stone, just certain tiles, or just random columns?
