Some questions...

So I'm starting a new file, and I was wondering about some things...

• Will rival events trigger if you're married but have the candidate at a red heart? I know it says so in the guide, but I just want to make sure, since I had that problem in HMDS.
• Is there any way to stop the game from freezing? I can't really play my old file since it always freezes, so if there's some way to prevent that, that'd be great.

I'm pretty sure the rival events do trigger as you said.

I'm a bit surprised to hear about the freezing since I played so much of SI and never ran into that. I think only once in the mines.

After some googling it appears the freezing tended to happen during the minigames with the dog and horse. This is just a guess, but other HM DS (as in the original HM DS) threads said the DS itself has a hard time "multitasking" so maybe it was due to the system? Or maybe try only training your dog or horse when no sprites are working that day or something? Some people also said it was more prone to happen on bought-used/damaged cartridges.
