Pacing

I just picked up ANB again after not playing Harvest Moon in over a year. To my dismay, my save file had mysteriously vanished! I hadn't gotten terribly far--I think I was in Spring or Summer of Year 2, but it's still frustrating to have to start all over again.
One thing I didn't remember was the pacing in this game. I enjoy a lot of the mechanics, but those first couple seasons really seem to drag on for forever here. Does anyone else feel like the pacing in this game is really odd? @_@
Also, I dunno why, but I tend to be progressing a lot slower than I usually do. It's already the middle of summer, and I haven't even gotten Tina's house built yet. Not really sure what's taking so long this play through. Still enjoying myself, though...I just hate all the grinding for materials.

I feel like the first spring takes forever. I can get through the rest of the first year in a day. The pacing does get better as you unlock different people and/or the mines

I wonder what I'm doing wrong, lol! I tend to get held back for lack of materials, which never seem to spawn when I need them. I've been hoarding since day 1, too, so I'm not sure what the problem is...maybe I'm just unlucky this playthrough.

I guess the games just being a pain.
Also if you are going to marry Allen or Sanjay, I can make their favorite gift for you. I have the recipe for Soseki's but I don't have any eels

Welcome to Ushi, I think!
I had to look it up, the most information I could get on your save file going away was due to a lack of space on your cartridge if you have a physical copy?? Or some kind of corruption still, I could be wrong about all this but sometimes I know it's nice to understand why it happened. I'm sorry about you losing your file regardless.
But, yeah. I tried replaying ANB awhile back and I stopped because of how slow it was. If it helps though, I can always give you items you need to help speed up the process of getting back to where you were. I think I might still have a stockpile of most things.

I actually haven't decided yet, but thanks a ton!!
Normally I have an idea of who I want to marry when I go into a new file, but this time i'm just going to try and play it by ear and see what happens. If I remember correctly, last time I was going after Soseki or Sanjay. I remember getting eels was a real pain in the butt, lol.
I also remember money was a lot easier to get early on because I would exploit the wifi-group thing, but now I am lucky if I can run into one other person in the wifi area.
@StrawberryAlpaca
I have a physical cartridge, but I think the culprit was one of my friends. I think they might have accidentally saved over it when I let them borrow my game. Strange, though, cause their file wasn't there when I started it up, but I could have sworn it used to be there. Hope this doesn't spontaneously happen again.
Thanks for being so kind, both of you, for offering to help! I might hit you up later this week if I'm still struggling. ^^

Oh, yeah, might've just been them. Were both files gone?
It's no problem though! I'm really happy to help.

It had a blank file in slot 1, and a second file I don't remember creating at all in slot 2.
Are either of you on the wifi area much at all? I read somewhere in the HM tag on tumblr that there's wifi events planned for people who still play ANB, but I haven't seen any posts to confirm this. ^^;

Ah, weird.
I don't play much of ANB at all anymore since I finished all my goals for it. I've moved onto SoS for now, also I'm worried that might've been my post since when I restarted a few months ago I suggested a wifi event group like the one Ushi had.

I occasionally go on multiplayer. I mostly go on whenever someone needs something
I get the reference you made with your signature lol

Haha thanks. I actually haven't watched the source material yet, but I plan to. A lot of my friends quote it all the time.

Ahhh okay. I was planning on moving onto SoS myself, but I just couldn't get into it. I'm hoping if I set it down and forget about it, I can try picking it up again, but I really didn't like the map much and the tutorial week was torture to bog through for me, haha. I'm very impatient when it comes to HM tutorials since I know most of this stuff already and just want to get to the nitty gritty xD

I'm enjoying it since I like the farming mechanics, makes it worthwhile because it feels like I'm doing more work than I really am, but yeah. I don't mind the map much anymore but I remember not liking it at first.
And I feel you about the tutorial, I want to have a seedling mode slot for relaxing but I can't get past the 3rd day of the tutorial because it's just so... long..... Even when speeding up the text with the X button.

Gonna be honest here, I feel like I quit shortly after/around the tutorial because it was so boring at that point, so I don't think I gave the game a fair chance. x_x Hopefully I'll have patience to try again soon. I like a lot of the character artwork and there's a lot of fun marriage candidates to choose from.

That's fine honestly, it's not a favorite of mine anyways.
You might as well give it another chance if you feel up to it, but if you never do there's nothing really to feel bad about.
