It only just occurred to me that with the MCs having different personalities, that, to me, almost certainly means no same « Chicken Hugging » marriage as well. I mean, I don't think anyone was really expecting it, but I know some of us have been hoping. But as the heart events couldn't be cut and pasted with the other MC, I doubt it will happen with this SoS.

It also will mean a bit more than the past two games if you play as one gender but crossdress or assume your character is trans or third gender (and ignore contradictory game text), you know? Like, before it was just ignoring the character icon and a few lines referring to your gender here and there (besides the obvious bachelor/ettes not being romance-able and wedding and pregnancy stuff), but if both act differently playing as a boy vs a girl farmer will be even more different regardless of crossdressing.

Not sure how I feel about that. I am however happy because frankly, I would expect the FeMC to have the MC's personality and vice versa, so at least that is nice. And I generally prefer MCs with personalities, since I never play as myself in these games.

I wonder if having different personalities also means the one you don't pick to play becomes a rival farmer? I don't think I've seen that since SI. Would be interesting but I'm not hoping for it, haha.

I think most of the MCs have been given "personalities" but it never actually reflects itself in the gameplay.

ToTT's and ANB's MC - full of curiosity and loves to take on a challenge
ToTT's and ANB's FeMC - energetic and a kind-hearted busybody who is easily able to put herself in other people's shoes
SoS's MC - Loves outdoor activities, and is a fast learner despite being a novice farmer due to his appetite for knowledge
SoS's FeMC - a gentle and pure spirit who loves animals, and never loses her smile, even during times of hardship

and games earlier than that (ToT, AP) had separate personalities by gender as well.
I don't think the descriptions match anything like what I experience in the game though otherwise they'd be writing "dumb as a brick" by the FeMC's pic

I totally agree. Although, I know people who even think the SoS FeMC is a blank slate so I'm always a bit baffled by that. But hey, that's how it goes. It's just that before I always felt the personality descriptions could be applied to the same character (and also as you said, never were shown in-game), whereas here they seem quite different to me between the two and perhaps suggesting that the writers are aiming for these MCs to have more personality in general? Or maybe the thread made me think that way with all the speculation on it, haha.

I mean, I HOPE it does (I want a FeMC who is more sharp/frank and can be that way without getting major FP loss). But I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Right, I follow you. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. But I agree... some of the MC's actions in certain games are really over the top awful. But I've usually always had a particular cutscene or something that made me want to yell at the MC every few HM games. (Almost always female MC too...)

Still, I am curious if this will affect clothing or crossdressing or anything like that. I doubt they'd restrict it, but it might be interesting if NPCs commented on it if they felt it didn't match the MC's personality or something?

So I actually like Wayne's description, he's a good person and loves to tease. That's something I do with my friends, family, and my boyfriend lololol. I also love his design, he looks like a more masculine. rugged Will from Sunshine Islands. The blue jeans and blue jacket is cool, I really like Blue. ^^;;

This. I just hope it's not like the original Harvest Moon where the grandfather leaves the Mc the farm thing. Some family interactions with the family would be nice.

It won't be since it looks like the aunt and uncle are actual characters that live on Wes island from the looks of things. It seems that the MC's farm is on a separate island from them.

Again just going by how things look since nobody knows too much for sure rn

I can feel your pain, I’m not that far in SoS but not being able to gift while a character is eating is slightly annoying. Though, I must be the only one who misses being able to throw gifts at people RF4-style as I find it to be not only a little more time efficient (you don’t have to walk all the way to a person and don’t lose precious seconds which you could invest in other actions) but also hilarious at the same time. I know it's far from being realistic but I almost always crack up at the thought of how utterly ridiculous it must be to get gifts thrown at you from a far distance in the first place:

Lest: “HEY PORCOLINE, THIS -INSERT VEGETABLE OR DISH- IS FOR YOU!”
*throws said crop/dish at him across half the street*

I actually neither married the Witch Princess or the Harvest Goddess in the older entries nor have I played the Wii-Harvest Moon Games where you could apparently marry the Harvest King in Animal Parade but I wouldn’t mind magical beings as bachelor/ettes in the next game at all.

I'm super excited for this! I like that there are multiple towns again. I'm curious to see the new npcs and marriage candidates. There's a lot of potential.

Time for some opinions!

I really like the designs of the main characters. I also like Wayne. Lisette is cute, but definitely not the one I'll date. The other villagers are okay. Like the others, I am also hoping for a Harvest King.

I love the fact that the farm itself is separate from the towns. While I did like the concept of ToTT and while you can utilize the other farm's resources, having to travel back and forth can be a pain sometimes. Glad that it's all in one place in this game.

Based on the screenshots, the environments are really a huge step-up. It's more vibrant and more detailed. Design-wise, I'm already liking the environment based on the screenshots. The new camera angle contributed to this. It's really visually beautiful.

I've read that one town is centered on mining, I really wish the classic mining mechanic returns. I was never a fan of the mining limitations in the recent games.

The new animal designs are adorable. I prefer these over SoS. I also like the pet breed variation. So happy there's a husky. Hopefully it's available early in the game.

I just noticed that the stable is separate from the barn, and it looks like it's part of the house. Even the design vary depending on your house's exterior.

I also like the new crop designs and I am glad that the very convenient 3x3 plot mechanic is returning. Interesting to see that Tomato is a Spring crop now.


Overall, it looks really promising. Considering this is their 20th anniversary entry, I have high expectations on this game.

For candidates, honestly at this point I'm pretty much cool with anything. Wayne looks intriguing and I really like his design, so I'm looking forward to seeing what other candidates they come out with. I'm assuming that we'll be seeing an official site opening somewhat soon which is exciting. Can't wait to get my preorder in whenever it's put up on amiami/cdjapan.

I wonder if we'll see the return of marriage CGs and the shoujo bubbles? lol. Having kids modeled after your spouse, and having choices in wedding attire again would be nice as well.

I've been checking non-stop at the main portal website http://bokumono.com for the new site to be added. It should be anytime now. ^^

Since we're talking about magical characters (all of my yeses to Harvest « Harvest Goddess », a merman, and/or wizard btw) I wonder if there'll be a harvest goddess or if Dessie will return again.

Yeah it's Gaia, I remember getting into A TUSSLE with some people over it in the SoS thread a while back lol but yeah since I believe we only had Dessie and Witchie in SoS (as far as I remember? I don't really count Gaia being on TV as really "in" the game) I'm really hoping we'll get to see their older siblings/parents/relatives/ what have you.

But yes really hoping for the HK to make a return too. I would really rather not have another Witch Princess though. As much as I like her and I liked Witchie instead, I feel like they've really over-used her.
