I didn't see this post until today, so I'm late to the party.
I think things look pretty decent so far. I'm interested to find out how the personality/stat customization or whatever is going to come into play. MCs are bit young looking for my taste, but it doesn't bother me too much. I think the designs of the two revealed candidates look really nice, and Wayne's personality should be interesting to see in action. It's definitely cool that MCs actually have family you can talk to for a change.
I would really love to see actual mining brought back as well, so here's to hoping. There are beaches again, so you never know.

^ Well Wes town is devoted to mining so it's very likely that there will be an actual mine rather than a crack in the wall or something

I agree with you. I really haven't been on board the "less is more" train for awhile, because having less characters doesn't automatically mean the characters are going to be fleshed out more and better written.
I also agree with this. 6 or so each seem to be a pretty good number without being an overload. Having a small selection could mean more in-depth characters, buuuut it could just as likely mean that there are fewer or none that catch your interest.

As for same-« Chicken Hugging » marriage...yeah, I strongly doubt that the candidates are bi because yeah. Optimistically, however... western audiences adore Marian (not sure how Japanese consumers felt, but I'm assuming they liked him, too?), and XSeed has said that they themselves have asked for it in future games. That doesn't mean anything exactly, but I believe that starting with SoS, Marvelous is a little more interested in the west's reception of the series. Also, I don't like making assumptions about another country so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Japan's also warming up to that sort of thing outside of BL/GL works? So. I guess I'm saying that while I'm not holding my breath, I wouldn't exactly be shocked if there was one gay/lesbian/bi option in the game. We'll just have to see, I guess.

I would love a supernatural candidate who wasn't the Witch Princess. Who knows - maybe one supernatural special candidate per country? Though that might be pushing it a bit. A mermaid/man would be hella cool, though, and I wouldn't mind marrying a « Harvest Goddess »(dess). :'D Lisette looks cute, but she's not my type. Wayne seems a bit more interesting. Both have pretty good designs. MCs look young, but ehhhhhh. It's not like they have a portrait and you can change their face so I'm not hung up about it. But holy « Cow Poopoo », everything looks and sounds so cool so far!

I don't mean to be rude or anything of the sort, but why does everyone think the MCs are so young? Except the MCs in ANB (and maaaaybe SOS), all the others look like children to me, so it's not like it's news for them to look really young.
Again, I'm just curious. Honest.

I think it may be because all other HM games were released yeeaarss ago when we were younger so the MCs don't look really young then. But now we've grown up so the MCs look young to us now?

I must be getting old too because they look like young adolescents to me. Time to advocate for different body builds in character customization lmao.
It's not that they haven't always looked young, it's that we have gotten older. And. I have always thought they looked young this isn't just a new issue for me personally. I have to say the FeMC doesn't look as young to me as the MC, but that might just be me. And then again, if we're going to be diaper realistic, I don't know any young adult running their own farm, so I think it's definitely a stylistic choice on the character designer's part. I'm guessing most people don't want to play as a 30 year old farmer vs a 19 year old farmer

It's not that people are forgetting about them; someone here said they'd love to see the Wizard from AP again. To me, the console Bokumono games and the handheld Bokumono games are set in different universes. That's why I think we have different Witch Princesses and Harvest Goddesses between all of the games and honestly if I want Wizard from AP to return I want him to return in a console Bokumono game instead of a handheld game. I can't see him or AP's Harvest King in the 3DS's graphics and I don't think they would fit in the handheld Bokumono's universe.]
Also, just thought I would mention, the more likely reason for a different WP and HG in the wii games is because they have a different character designer. Igusa Matsuyama is the regular character designer for the Harvest Moon Series (I forget who did AP/ToT but it wasn't Matsuyama)
I LOOOOOOVE WAYNE!!! I have a feeling that he will act just like Leon from RF4 (Leon and Dylas, man, serious eye candy right there). Two things I want from an HM game that I don't think we will get this time around (but who knows?):
*some kick-« Mr.Gourmet's hat » voice acting (I love me some good VA. RF4 did it right)
*animation for the character displays (SoS had blinking, but I want more like Lord of Magna with full on moving)
*and for crying out loud! I want to go on dates! (They better have made a surplus of romantic festivals to make up for the lack in SoS)

New Mcs look younger to me than SOS' cause they have bigger eyes. Both SOS and new one had round faces and twiggy bodies, but new ones have bigger eyes which, in comparison to the proportion of their faces, looks younger to me.
SOS' protags look younger than ANB's, but about the same or maybe a smidgen older than ToTTs.
All IMO tho. Not the youngest we've had but nonetheless.

I agree with the anon, they don't look all that young to me personally. I sort of feel like I'm anime age blind at times, since people said the same thing about RF4's Lest and Frey which I disagreed with lol. Or maybe my brain is compensating since I'm older, that I see them as older as well in my head. No idea.

Part of why we're all commenting on how they look so young might stem from the fact that we can't believe that such twiggy people could be running a farm. It's probably just the art style + a lot of people on here having played since they were kids so the MCs looked older in comparison, imo. I'm on the younger scale of Ushians in the first place so I don't think they look that young, but I can see how some others might think they do.
Meanwhile, opinions on the Wayne and Lisette: Lisette already looks like an adorable cinnamon roll, though I'm kinda getting Lillie vibes. Even their names are similar, now that I think about it. Meanwhile, Wayne's personality sounds awesome although something about his hair and his hat I don't really like. Still excited to see how his personality is like in-game though!
Also fully on board for magical candidates and RELATIVES THAT YOU CAN INTERACT WITH!!1!

It's by no means the youngest protags we've had, but compared to SOS and ANB they look younger.
Not that it matters much cause well probably be able to change face features enough and I'm certain candidates will look younger or around the same age with the exception of the token old fart candidates, but Yeahhhh.

Artwork-wise, I don't think they look young, but when looking at them in-game the MCs look like kewpie dolls wearing over-sized clothes. That might be where the excessively-young criticisms are coming from. The in-game MCs look much older in ANB and SoS than they do in this latest version.

Is anyone good at making comparison charts?
Maybe make one with all the MC's of BokuMono, or at least from AnB, SoS, and this latest game. I commonly see people make such charts with the Pokemon protagonist players. :- )

The artstyle really does it for me. The comparison charts Pachi linked really emphasizes that in my eyes. BTNFG was one of my very first games and I didn't really think on character ages at the time because everyone was chibi-like. I'm probably ToT/AP biased but I think the age to design were the best then. Shh, no, I am biased.
